We are new to this school district. If you want your child to excel academically and in sport then this school is for your child…! But don’t expect your kids to have any fun in this school. Which in my opinion it’s rather sad. Elementary is so important for emotional growth. I was a room mom for about 12 years and let me tell you. ALL the kids that are now graduating still remember the fun that they all had while in elementary. The class parties. The fun class crafts. The trunk o treats. The cafeteria hunted house. The holiday assemblies. Garfield doesn’t do anything that doesn’t have to do with sports and fundraising for sports. I’m not a salty parent at all. It’s a great school as long as all you want your kids to do is study and do sports. I personally believe that they need fun activities to thrive and regenerate their minds. Good luck to all the newcomers.

I've had two kids through this school consecutively over the last 12 years - the opportunity for parental engagement has always been excellent. One of my kids needed a little understanding from a newer educator as it related to learning difficulties. The administration took an active interest and it turned into a teachable moment for everyone, including us and our child is now well ahead of the curve as a result. We appreciate their efforts tremendously.

I loathe this school. My son was singled out and bullied. I tried to transfer him and was denied. I moved just so that I could transfer my son out of Garfield, and they are still trying to deny my child from going to school. They definitely do not care about the best interest of the child.

While test scores are above average for the state of California (they do things to fudge test scores) there are many children that attend this school who are from out of district and are problematic. The school gives very little fun for the kids. The playground is sad at best. No play equipment except basketballs. If your child likes to play tag... too bad it's not allowed at Garfield. They are so worried about suits that there is literally no fun to be had by kids. The teachers are 26 to 1 on average in classrooms, which leaves the teachers short fused and lacking enthusiasm to be great teachers. Sadly, if you aren't catholic, there is not really any other option for private schools here in the central valley.

My son was in Mrs. Sullivan K-2 class she is great! Keep up the great job. She makes the children interested in learning.
