This high school is a great one. Many people like to put it down. If you have a hunger for success it starts with you. CPHS teacher’s, counselors are always committed to your own educational program. Study and be prepared, have a positive attitude about Your education. The school curriculum is state mandated. Therefore it offers from AP courses, honors, etc. I personally attended this school. It offered me what I needed for college.

The efforts by administration and the teachers to help improve the school can definitely be noticed! Classes have been added to the curriculum and academic clubs/teams like DECA have been added as well. Hopefully the improvements will continue and more enriching and challenging courses will be added to the curriculum.

This high school really isn't that bad with its academic opportunities. I find that the only issues with the school are the students that attend it and the overcrowding. Many students in the school just don't have a passion to academically excel. Also, there are quite a bit of students that are disruptive and rude to teachers. Addressing the overcrowding part, there are a lot of students that attend this school, and the merge with the students residing in Fairview definitely adds to it. The school was built many years ago, back when the town had a much smaller population. So, this school really isn't meant 1,000+ students. Walking through the halls can be extremely frustrating. If you are, or will be, a student here just know that as long as you are mature in school, take your education seriously, and don't mind many of the annoying people around you, you will not have such a hard time. Yes, there are a few teachers that students would not be very lucky to have, but that is the same for every school. As long as you are respectful, many teachers are very helping. There are many excellent teachers I can name. This school offers a variety of advanced classes, such as AP Biology, AP Physics I, AP Calculus, AP English, and more. There are also honors classes for many of the core subjects. If you are able you get into these classes, you don't have to worry so much about bothersome students. Overall, this school is not bad, except for the fact that a good portion of the students are lacking in their ambition to excel.

US news and world report rankings for high schools have given CPHS a bronze medal for effort over the past three years. This ranking of 3 is outdated. A few reviews talk about drugs but that is the case in many schools including the better private schools such as the Dwight Englewood school where drugs are rampant. As far as choices for college, teens choose to go wherever they want but gifted children go to Ivy League schools. My son is one of those.

I go to 8th grade in cliffside park and i am telling you right now not to move here. Bad enough stuff is happening in 8th grade(drugs, violence, sex) I know the people in the town and it is horrible i also know a lot of high schoolers and no one that i knew that graduated went to a good college. I know the teachers there and hear what my friends say they are disuntersted in their students.

My 15-year-old daughter attended Cliffside high school for one year because we moved. We have had great experiences with the elementary and middle school. The principle, Ms. Morrow from the middle school moved to the high school at the same time my daughter moved. Ms. Morrow is an excellent principal and had provided great support for my daughter who was having issues in middle school. Actually, the teachers and vice-president in the cliffside middle school were very helpful with helping me with my daughter. So even if the high school was having any issues I was confident with Ms. Morrow moving there that these issues would be straightened out immediately. Anyway, I immediately contacted all her teachers right away and met with her guidance counselor to ensure that I could help my daughter with her transition and they were very responsive. As far as I am concerned the experience was very positive and the staff were very good and concerned.

This school is a parents worst nightmare. School is lax in checking residency so students are coming in from other districts and seriously overcrowding the school. Many of my daughters classes are packed with 30 students or more per class. Not enough books, overtaxed, disnterested teachers. The ones who are interested are seriously overworked and challenged with up to 150 students to oversee. Extreme lack of control of student behavior on all levels, the parents are equally unbehaved and lack simple manners; apple and the tree thing going on. . Sadly lack of parental involvement except for dances or cookie sales. If more parents paid attention to academics and raising funds for more books or extra teachers, rather than cookie dough, we might be able to help imrpove our childrens chances at a better education and future.
