This is a nice school overall and would recommend, because although people are talking about bullying and fighting and stuff like that, ya'll need to realize that that's normal for that type of stuff to occasionally occur as we are middle schoolers going through phases of figuring ourselves out. The teachers, for the most part, are nice and work well with us kids when needed too.

I think overall the school itself is good and the teachers are giving the best that they have, however the issues lie with the students. Behavior problems is one of the main issues in this school. Bullying does happen to some kids as well. The administration does get involved and try to get a handle on it before it gets out of hand. My child hasn't had the best experience so far this school year when it comes to the students. In some of the classrooms during the day I heard the students act out so bad it's hard for the teacher to teach. It's wrong on so many levels for the kids who really do want to learn and have no choice in the matter of what school they are placed in. Just remember you can't blame everything on the teachers/administrators because training starts at home not in school.

This school has very little money, yet there are almost always fundraisers happening that always make a lot of money. The school is in very poor condition, and is not very clean. The teachers are extremally overworked, with around 30 kids per class with 5 classes a day. They also do tutoring after school, and some of them coach sports at the school. There is some bulling, and most times people see but don't do anything about it. There are some good students, but most of them are very loud and distracting, but the teachers do little to stop it most times. I will say though, the teachers are very nice, and teach very well. I personally have only ever been confused by something at school a few times, and when I ask for help, they always explain it in a way I can understand easily. There is also the bus situation, which although it is not directly part of the school, must be included. The bus drivers are either too strict, (no talking, no drinking, etc.) or not strict enough (lets students run on bus, screaming, jumping, spraying water everywhere, etc.) It is very unsafe on the non-strict bus, I have been hit on the head by a water bottle. Most kids who do things wrong do not get punished in anything more than a talking to. In the last few weeks though, they have been more strict and students are getting more of what they deserve, which has been helping make it a safer place.

This school offers NOTHING in the area of protecting our students. There are many bullies and the principal's message to the bullied students is to mind their own business and not report it. Her words were that if the student told anyone, they would be a target for continued bullying. This is unacceptable. The assistant principal is even more worthless. He has zero follow through, does not communicate with parents, and obviously has no interest in these children, their education or their safety. Truly wish the former administration was back at this school.

Not a good school if your child is interested in an education. Alot of the students appear to be gang members. Sexual harassment is a big problem on their buses.

I have to say that I was not sure what to think at first before we started here because I had heard some mixed reviews about the high school around the corner. I will say though that we have been fine here and had no problems and kids have been nice. Some of the teachers have some tough expectations which is a good thing. We have been pleased and the new principal is indeed awesome.

My son went to this school in the 1990's, I remember it as a child friendly school which applied just amount of discipline and prepared my child for high school.

Clayton Middle is still a small-town school with increasing focus on academic rigor. They are making efforts to increase the technology availability for students. My child comes home and talks about things he learned that day. It's the biggest sign that he's learning, in my opinion. Teachers are very supportive in helping out with the usual organization problems with a pre-teen. My son says 'the teachers are fun' and I see the principal engaged with the kids. Parents are encouraged to be involved, with many opportunities for family activities. Their library is old and needs a refresher. They don't do many research projects which does worry me about his high school preparedness. They have a fantastic band and moderate sports teams. Overall, it's a good, safe community school.
