After my daughter attending Summit the bullying began and didn’t stop until we took her out of the school. The students told my daughter that they bully everyone it their way of dealing with new students, because they do not like the change. I still regret not listening to my daughter, and I understand now how young students commit suicide. I just always took her teachers word for it. My last straw with the school was when her teacher emailed me and said that my daughter was being bad in class and that she kept getting into my daughter’s face (very out of character for my daughter), I then spoke to my daughter and she was jumped by 4 students. These students pushed, kicked, punched, and threw her belongings in the trash along with another girl, it was so bad throughout the year that my daughter told me she didn’t want to live anymore after she was jumped. The teacher never made me aware nor the other students mother about what was going on and what happened. And my daughter told me that she told her teacher about her being jumped in class, not in the hall or bathroom. Upon having a meeting with the staff, it was apparent it wasn’t a big deal and I was told time and again that I cannot know what happens to these students who did this to her. I spoke to every level of teacher and staff about this and it was just as if they could care less. After looking back, I am sure that they deal with more students bullying then being bullied, and they deal with a lot of underprivilege students were families are not involved in school and what goes on. I WAS NOT ONE OF THOSE PARENTS. I am aware of every aspect that I can be in to what is going on with my daughter I will be the first to stand up and defend a teacher and I back them up 100%, but I would recommend to anyone who wishes to take their child or children here not to so unless you would like your child to have more problems then what they attended school with.I happen spoken to a lawyer yet, but I do plan on doing so in the next few weeks. I just don’t want to see what happened to my daughter happen to another child just be careful when making your decision on sending any child here.

awful curriculum, in state emergency, staff unprepared to work with the population of students, lots of behavioral problem children mixed with autistic children.

Summit Academies (Elementary & High School) has been a god-send to the Cincinnati community. As a Parent Advocate, I've found the staff to be very professional and caring. I have assisted several parents with problems that their children have had at Summit. These were the usual problems related to kids who have various types of disabilities,/challenges. What was different with the Summit staff was that they looked for solutions to problems and not find ways to expel kids who acted out. The staff continuously stress the academics regardless of what else was occurring. My only concern is that there aren't enough Summits to benefit the growing population of children in this city who need people to believe in them, have high expectations and willing to work at finding solutions to problems. GREAT JOB SUMMIT !!! .

My son has been attending Summit Academy for 2 1/2 years now, and I must say the 180 he has done is amazing. Putting my son in Summit was hands down the best thing I have ever done for him. I only wish I found it sooner. He is now on the Honor Roll, he joined the Science Club, and he was in the Drum Program! It is just wonderful to see him actually WANT to go to school in the morning! Summit has small class sizes and two teachers per class, so the students get tons of one on one time with the teachers. Plus all the teachers are specially trained to teach kids with ADD/ ADHD/ Aspergers/ Autism. And I must say the staff is amazing. They go above and beyond to make sure every child has the ability and motivation to succeed. They genuinely care about the kids and parents. The lines of communication are always open with the teachers and principals. My son has blossomed since attending Summit. He used to get Kicked out of class everyday and put in the hall at his old school. Now he is on the Honor Roll and an Orange Belt in Karate (which they are taught in school). I just can't say enough great things about this school and how much my son has benefited since he started there. A+++

Hi my son used to attend pleasant run middle school. He was bullied, none of the staff seemed to care nor did the district..we found out about Summit Academy through his therapist.. adapted for children with ausbergers adhd and autism. the staff was most important. They were interested in my son..his likes his dislikes and how he liked to learn .. They have small classroom size 2 teachers per room (qualified teachers) who actually care who your child is as an individual.Summit is an amazing school they match your childs way of learning with other students who are like him/her even as far as what their interests.we found a school who is qualified caring and understanding. He can't wait to go to school loves his teachers and staff and smiling and excited to tell me about what they're learning and his new friends. I would say anyone looking for a school where achild can become their best ,learning how smart they are, what they are capable of,learning social skills, get the best education, with a loving caring staff who will show them the way, treat them as the individuals our children are .PLEASE call Summit ...it will be the best move both you and your child you can make.

Summit Academy is the Best school.. my son went from almost failing grades, being bullied and afraid to going to school to almost all A's,no fear of being bullied ,and not wanting to miss a single day.I know this is due to the well structured ,well organized, caring and individual attention he now recieves from Summit. The Director and assistant director are an excelent example of what /how a school should be run! They care for the children with respect and dignity. The teachers are well qualified ,and caring treating each child as an individual, helping them reach beyond expectations.the school has arts karate and even a science club.Words can not express how wonderful the entire staff communicates with themselves to come up with a plan specifically for your child..then communicates to the parent/s and takes into consideration what the parent thinks and ideas they might have to help your child achieve ALL that is possible. If you are tired of your child with add/adhd,aspergers,autism, bipolar ..etc. not being treated as he/she should not reaching their full potential then PLEASE CALL SUMMIT ACADEMY>>help your child realize their dreams.

As a Child Behavioral Therapist, I deal with many schools in the Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio area. Part of my job, as a therapist, is to advocate for my clients. Summit has been, without a doubt, the best school I have dealt with in meeting the needs of my clients. I deal mostly with children diagnosed with Aspergers, Conduct disorders, Bipolar, ODD, etc. and have referred several students to Summit because of the quality of education and individual attention my clients receive. The teachers have displayed patience, intellect and knowledge of the needs of my client and I recommend Summit Academy often to the parents of my clients. I have found the teachers and staff to be open to suggestions while providing a great education, feedback and displaying compassion, with integrity and intelligence. I truly appriciated this school and enjoy working with them for the success of my clients.

When my son first enrolled in Summit Academy five years ago it was a dream come true. The teachers knew everything about my son and about teaching kids with ADHD and Asperger's. I commonly described it as a school of angels. I am sad to say that this year is dramatically different, and if homeschooling was an option for me, I'd pull my son from Summit. With only a small exception, most teachers and staff are new and don't seem to understand even the basics of working with these kids and don't seem to care. There is little to no communication. It is highly disorganized, there is no down time for kids, no recess, no outdoor time, no means for stress or energy release. Admin seems to rule by intimidation with harsh, empty threats. My hope is that big changes can be made, and it can be a school of angels again. There are still a few teachers I conisder to be heroes, but they are now far outnumbered by staff and teachers I could only describe as incompetent.

I had my three children in Summit at the beginning of this year and two of them last year and the difference between the two years was unreal. Last year I had to beg my children to stay home when they were sick because they loved going to school so much. This year after about the third day they began making excuses and faking sick to stay home. I tried to speak with the principal and the assistant principal but I was basically pushed aside. Before they entered Summit last year they struggled in both public and private schools but last year for the first time they had great grades. This year they are struggling yet again because due to the bullying being done by the two principals I pulled them refusing to let my children be their personal self esteem boost. I would give pretty much anything for the school to change those two so that my children could come back next year because I think many of the families who left would gladly bring their kids back with a new administration. I just hope they do something before its too late for the school to recover from all they are doing to it.

This school had the potential of being a good school but it has gone downhill, rapidly. There are a couple of great teachers there but they are far outnumbered by the bad ones. The school is disorganized, dirty, no play area for the kids, and little communication with the staff. If you have a child with special needs, it is almost completely the opposite of what you would want for your child.

This school could not be any more of a disappointment. Most of the parents who have the financial means to do so pull their children out of summit within a year. The former head of the PTA pulled her child after she became so disillusioned and disgusted with Summit's drive toward money - and away from integrity. Two current parents who have been actively involved with the PTA are considering pulling their children out, as well... Summit actively discourages parents from being in the building, much less in the classroom - unless they're there to raise money. This year there is a large, committed group of parents eager to improve things at this school, but they are pushed away at every turn... In response to the person who wrote a review on November 30, 2012, I strongly believe you are NOT an actual parent at Summit. I have knowledge of the student body, and there is NO family that fits your description. Also, there are *only* one or two academic classroom teachers who have been there for four years. 60% of their academic teaching staff left last year - many of them too disgusted to return, some saying this place almost ruined teaching for them... Please look elsewhere.

This school is no longer located at this address. There is no email contact for this or any of the Summit Academy Schools. This is a last-resort for children with special needs. Very disorganized. Do your homework before enrolling your child in this school!

My daugther started 7th grade at Summit this year. She is new to the school and loves it! She comes home motivated to make good grades and talks with me about what she has learned! That never happened in her old traditional public school enviroments. I wish I would have discovered this school years ago! Her teachers were impressed with how quickly she transitioned into the Summit "model" style of learning. Traditional elementary and middle school models were a struggle for her especially with 30-32 students per class was just too much. So the combo of small classes (14 max) and Summit Model has made a huge difference for her. They teach social skills, Theraputic Karate, Music and Arts. You can tell the teachers really enjoy working with the children and are passionate about setting the kids up for success. I'm a dvocate supporter of this school.

Our daughter will be starting as a 9th grader at their Transitional High School (grades 8-12 now moved to their own bldg, a former Catholic school with great new gym & other remodeled facilities!), so we don't have personal experience to relate yet, but we're all very excited about her prospects for success there, after discouraging experiences thru 6th grade in public school & homeschooling (with part-time classes at a K-12 learning center) for 7th & 8th. I am so impressed by the attitude & dedication of all the staff I've met there so-far. Their philosophy and approach focus on the strengths inherent in every student, and helping them find and use their gifts toward achieving success in whatever vocation or higher education they pursue after graduation--including acquiring college credits at state expense during their Jr & Sr yrs. Emphasis is (refreshingly!) on students' individual learning styles/needs, NOT state test scores!
