Our son goes to Lake View. He loves it. The kids there are great. And the teachers have all been great.

I’m a proud Wildcat parent of a senior!! My kid has been challenged and supported in every level! My student is an athlete, and involved in several extra curricular opportunities at school and through their partnerships outside. Academically, the school has offered a wide range of opportunities (AP, honors, dual credit), my kid also took advantage of Lake View’s SAT prep classes and College Board after school, giving a great edge for his college applications. As we approach graduation date, I look back with a full heart to our teachers, coaches, admins and the parents running Friends of Lake View. My kid will graduate in May and we already have so many college offers thanks to the well rounded education he received at Lake View. High school is definitely what you make of it, and Lake View is Home.

Principal Karafiol is fantastic. He impressed us on day one and continues to run an amazing neighborhood school. We had heard such negative things about LV but that turned out to be outdated lore. Lake View HS is an hidden gem! Our college freshman graduated in 2023 and our sophomore will graduate in 2026. Keep an eye on their STEM, art and athletics!

We never imagined high school teachers being so connected to the kids throughout all 4 years. At first we were nervous not to have "tracks" for kids before they go there, like many Selective Enrollments or IB schools do. But we are so grateful it is purposefully not this way right up front. Our 2 students at LVHS are creating their own tracks with their teachers as they go, and building on things they discover they love. We're seeing this with 2 students with 2 different interests. The kids learn study skills and leadership skills that are setting them up for college success. The parent community is welcoming, with options to jump in and do one thing, just meet and not commit. It's been amazing to meet people with the same values and mindset from all over the city. So grateful to have found a fabulous music/arts and stem program in our neighborhood!

I have a child at LVHS who graduated in 2021 and another child who will graduate in 2022. My kids' experience at LVHS has been excellent. They have been provided with challenging academic classes including many AP and Honors choices. The teachers at LVHS have been outstanding. They truly care about their students and provide feedback to parents on a regular basis, which is not the norm in high school. LVHS fosters an environment and culture that embraces diversity, respect and individuality. Both of my children have been provided with opportunity to play Varsity sports and get involved with a number of other extracurricular activities. The smaller size of LVHS provides more opportunity for students to stand out and chart their own path. For students who want to pursue a 4-year college degree, LVHS will prepare them to do so! My son graduated in 2021 and was accepted into multiple universities including University of Illinois, University of Michigan, University of Wisconsin and University of Miami. LVHS is a neighborhood high school that offers a great learning environment, supportive culture and many opportunities for its students.

The school has been trying to improve its reputation ever since the new principal has taken the lead. BUT the student body itself HAS NOT been improved which might surprise others. Want proof? Well, when I graduated, we had a surprise guest: the CEO of CPS, Forrest Claypool who visited only our high school out of all CPS because apparently Lake View had the highest graduation year. That might sound like a good thing, right? Not if you knew that student who didn't meet the graduation requirements STILL graduated.Another example, recently a kid with autism was physically bullied by another student... more specifically FLIPPED sending the kid with autism to the hospital. Yup. Lake View High School DOES NOT address the issue of bullying. Oh... Forgot to tell you! A classmate of mine had brought a taser to school and was playing around with it in class. I approached the deans with the issue and it was never addressed.Yes, they might have a great STEM program and other great opportunities like College Possible, etc but trust me, IT IS NOT WORTH putting your child through what he/she sees at Lake View.

I love this school. It is a diamond in the rough with wonderfully caring teachers - who actually call to check on your son/daughter if they are sick. The staff - especially Ms Hershfang - is caring, supportive and LISTENS. My son has enjoyed his 4 years at LVHS and I'd recommend this school in a heartbeat. Go for the AP classes if possible.

I'm a student at this school. I love it! The teachers are very nice and helpful. If you're struggling on homework or what you might be learning in that class, they'll take off their lunch time for you. Or there is also a club where they help you on homework or if you're struggling in math. They have amazing clubs for you to join. This is a really good school! I highly recommend it.
