Fantastic school with such great leadership. They are such a community pillar and are continuing to evolve to become one of the best schools in Chicago.

Bateman is a fantastic school! Everyone there is wonderful. Admin and staff are top notch. Teachers are amazing. They offer great student support. My child has been going there for 3 years and loves it. The social-emotional support they’ve provided my child has helped her tremendously. We also love the different daily essential classes - music, health, PE, and art. They have a lot of before and after school activities and NBGC aftercare at the school. Best community too.

I have two children attending Bateman - one in the bilingual program, and one in the English program. They were previously at a different CPS elementary, which also had a bilingual program. Their experience with Bateman has been excellent, and I struggle to understand why the school's rating is only a 4.The administration is the dream team - Davos, Kloepper, and Fernandez: they are hard-working, engaged, and thoughtful. I have also been impressed by the parents, many of whom contribute significant time and energy to elevating the school and engaging the school community. With one exception (to be expected when CTU reigns supreme), my kids' teachers have also been excellent and have worked to ensure the kids are both thriving and striving. The students' home/economic situations vary widely, and there is no doubt that some students struggle at school owing to struggles at home. But, to me, that merely reflects the neighborhood, city, and country in which we live. I think my kids will benefit from being educated in reality, rather than in some private school bubble, and I only hope that they will bring something to the school community by being part of it.

Been at school now 5 years---have two kids there. In my experience culture of excellence while also valuing social-emotional learning and not being overly demanding in unhelpful way. Only critique is more a system wide critique ---although there are "essentials" ie art, health, music, I wish it was more robust. BATEMEN is the way to go if you have the ability for a public elementary school in Chicago.

Emphasis on encouraging the full child. Learning is both intellectual and social. Creative arts is emphasized as well as nutrition for the whole body. Creative approaches to social and intellectual problem solving is emphasized

At one time or another, I have worked at more than 20 CPS schools. Bateman is exceptional. I don't know where this site got its test score information. By the time that the students graduate, a clear majority of the them are above the 50th percentile on the NWEA MAP test. Most of our graduates graduate from college, including some from Northwestern and other highly competitive universities. In fact, many earn graduate degrees!

I sent both of my children to Bateman and they were very well prepared for their honors courses and AP courses in high school. Thank you for the foundation. I wouldn't trade the education and diversity they experienced for anything.

My daughter is now in second grade and my son in Pre-K. We have had an all-around amazing experience at Bateman. From the administrations vision to the day to day with each teacher we’ve come to learn that Bateman is a special place. The gifted program is top-notch as well.

As a Bateman family, we feel fortunate to be part of an active community. Leadership is strong, present, approachable and friendly. Teachers are good. The arts program is wonderful. The library is stocked and pleasant. This is a community in which I feel my student can find his place.

This school is excellent! Great environment for the children. There is strong parent involvement. Lots of events for families and opportunities to build community. They are implementing the learning garden this year and have begun the dual language. My child has learned so much the first year of school at Bateman. It's evident that the staff and administration are dedicated to the success of each student.

My son has been enrolled in the Pre-K Program. I've witnessed how much he's learned already in one year. The Pre-K Program appears to be fun and interactive. Teachers provide open communication with parents; and they listen to my concerns about his development. I have also worked with other school staff, and they are phenomenal.

The quality of the education and staff at this school has greatly improved over the years. Teachers are continually improving their craft through professional development and incorporate better practices to help students achieve their best. Teachers and staff work collaboratively sharing best practices and student work on weekly and monthly basis.

My daughter is in kindergarten at Bateman. I have been very pleased with her relatively small class size, her excellent, organized and energetic teacher, and the extra classes offered. She has music twice a week, art and gym weekly and also yoga. This school is a hidden gem in CPS and is definitely under the radar.
