First grade was the worst experience for our kid. Discriminative behaves by the principle unfortunately. Left the area cause of this attitude.

I can only rate Byam based on my personal experience, and cannot discredit those who hold lower opinions of the school. However, I cannot be happier with how well the staff at Byam helped my son to progress and move beyond his need for an IEP. They gave him the "supportive space" allowing him to develop into the amazing kid he is today. His sister has not required any extra attention, but the level of support and communication is the same as with her brother. As a parent, I could not recommend Byam enough.

Terrible experience at Byam. For decades, the Byam district was the best in the town. People, us included, specifically moved to that part of town to get into Byam. It has gone down the toilet in the last 7 years. Not enough aide support for the teachers, so if there is a challenged child that either holds the class back or, worse and more often, is a behavior problem, the teacher needs to stop everything and deal with the troubled student, alone, and without backup. Frequent disruptions like these stopped the learning in many classrooms, all too often. We tried to work with the teachers and principal multiple times over multiple years and finally pulled our kids out of this school and enrolled them in another school out of the district. Breaks my heart to say all of this; I grew up in this town and have been proud of it for decades. Specifically moved back here to ensure an excellent education for my children. No more, I'm afraid.

My daughter is in her second year at Byam Elementary School. I have been very impressed with her teachers, the principal, and the school community as a whole.

Great school, great community feel. Teachers think out of the box to keep students challenged.
