We pulled out son after 4 months he entered the school. No security, no supervision, drugs and not communication between teachers (faculties) and parents especially when it comes the school doesn’t want to deal with. Once your child get accepted, pay your tuition, that’s all what they want. SAD

Due to the ban on international travel during last year's Covid-19 pandemic, my son, an international student, was not able to go to campus to have classes in person. Instead, he had to take all his McCallie classes online from our home. Despite our son not being on campus for the whole year, the McCallie school refused to refund us any money whatsoever for our son’s unused food and dormitory fees. We had emails with them about this and after sorting thru various illogical excuses the upshot was the school would not refund anything at all for no legal or morally defensible reason. They knew our only recourse would be an expensive lawsuit in their local jurisdiction, which would be inhospitable to any foreign litigant. Although many boarding schools have different refund policies and options, to our knowledge McCallie is the only private boarding school we know of in America which refused to refund any funds whatsoever for unused dorm and food fees to students who, solely due to the pandemic, did not live on campus. Further, due to the time zone difference between McCallie and our home in Asia, our son’s online classes ran from 8:50pm in the evening until 3:30am in the morning. McCallie refused to adjust the horrible middle of the night scheduling of our son’s online classes. Many private boarding schools instituted a variety of solutions to accommodate the various time zone differences of students taking online classes from different time zones. For instance, McCallie’s close local competitor, another School, not only refunded its remote-learning international students $30,000 for unused dorm and food fees, but it also arranged for its remote-learning students to have online classes at times appropriate for their own time zones.

I am an engineer at a large national science/engineering agency. I am reviewing applicants to our summer intern program. I landed on this site so I could understand if a candidate was someone who could truly benefit from another bullet on their resume, or ... who clearly already has had opportunities. Unlike other high schools this school does not offer opportunity metrics. I understand such metrics can be misleading OTOH that's all we have. I see a huge opportunity gap in this school.

Overall my experience at McCallie was one that I will always look back at with a warm heart. The school played a huge part in helping me achieve my academic and athletic goals while also providing me with a rich and healthy social environment.

I'm a 7th Grader and My experience is that this is one of the best places to grow and learn and be yourself. Aside from the expensive shoes and snobbish attitudes of a vocal minority, his has been an amazing experience.

Fantastic school. Most of the teachers I had there were terrific, several with doctorates in their field and others with Ivy League educations. There are so many ways to get involved on campus - whether through arts, athletics, sciences, music, etc. It's a school where you have to want to be there, because between rigorous classes, lots of homework, athletic commitments, etc., there is not much time to rest except on weekends. The school offers a lot of activities for boarding students on weekends - trips, busses downtown, dorm athletic competitions, etc. School tuition is equal to some colleges. However, there are a lot of need-based scholarships and merit scholarships available. My one quibble, which the previous poster also mentioned is the athletic program. The facilities are phenomenal, but the athletic department stacks their hires with good ol' boys. They are tone deaf to most alumni, parents, and non-coaching faculty concerns and questions. One word of advice, take advantage of the strong McCallie alumni network after college. Lots of connected people throughout the southeast who can help you out. The McCallie brotherhood is very strong.

My son graduated from McCallie and is now graduated from college. While at McCallie he experienced success both academically and athletically. The majority of his teachers were high caliber and encouraged the students. He was very well prepared for success at the next level of education. A few of the teachers were arrogant with their own agenda but most were very good. The athletic department was disappointing as they view the student athletes more as employees instead of well paying customers. The parents are not welcomed or embraced by the athletic department in any way. If you have a problem with the treatment of your son by a coach, then it will fall on deaf ears. This experience is from a parent whose son was a 4 year starter at McCallie and went on to enjoy a successful NCAA D1 athletic career.
