Great school that's evolved a ton over the last few years. You've got the typical mid-school stuff happening but the admin/teachers are well aware of everything that goes on and are on top of it.

I was a student here, and everything was terrible. Fights everywhere, rats in the bathroom, roaches EVERY WHERE, threats of rape, lots of drug dealing, etc. Not great counseling, or adult supervision. Staff are nice, but they don't have great attention to detail with student interactions, resulting in the many fights.

I’ve been at this school for the past 2 years and personally, It’s not a great school. First off, the school needs better communication between news and students. This year they switched up the lunch rotations since one grade complained so much about it. They didn’t tell us until the day before the new lunch schedule came into effect. When they changed our grades lunch schedule again, they didn’t tell us until the morning of. Secondly, the school is heavily biased. The guys there could be wearing their pants halfway down and nobody would care. But if a girls shirt shows their shoulder the slightest bit too much, they’d get dress coded. Finally, there is a BIG problem with bugs. Once while I was in the bathroom trying to do my business, I see a centipede RIGHT BESIDE ME CLIMBING UP THE WALL. I never walked out of a bathroom so quickly in my life. The school bathrooms at Sedgefield are worse than literal gas station bathrooms. Not only that, but there are roaches every corner you turn. Overall, the school isn’t great and you could choose a much better school.

I have written a review for this school before, and now that I am in seventh grade, I have a new review. This school is likely the worst I have ever been too. Not only have I developed severe trust issues from this school, but I have also developed anxiety and will now be seeing a therapist. Probably the only good thing about this school is a few of the students and maybe one or two teachers. All the other things about this school stinks. I will be going through the list of things I have rated. Learning-wise, I would say this school needs to change. I hate going to most of my classes, and they give us a lot of work, even if we haven't been taught it. If you are a smarter kid, you get work that is too easy, or too hard. It is also unsanitary. There is a roach problem, and many other problems that this school is too cheap to fix. The teachers are horrible, and make me feel so bad about my work, and are honestly rude to kids when they don't deserve it. If needed, you can't go to the school counselor unless you make an appointment out of school. How crazy is that! There are ramps, but they are accessible to everyone. When I sprained my ankle badly and had crutches, I felt very unsafe going up the ramps as kids came down them to get to class. This school is also unsafe, and we have had multiple "accidents" happen, such as a kid trying to commit arson on this school, gun threats, and fights on a daily/weekly basis. If fights happen, the kids don't even get a full suspension, and usually stay at home for a day and then come back, or don't even leave. The kids there are also awful. They are mean, judgmental, and make me feel so bad about myself. I thought that school was supposed to be a fun place to learn, but Sedgefield middle school has most certainly not been that. I suggest not wasting your time with this school and choose a different one. I wish I joined another school when I had the chance, or even gone to that magnet school.

The learning is basic, and the so-called "honors classes" are closer to average grade level work. Half of the teachers just sit on their phone all of class. There is a school counselor, but you can't even visit them during school. As for special education, they just keep those kids in a separate wing of the school. The school is unsanitary as well, and most of the toilets are broken or clogged year-round. It is not safe, as there is excessive profanity, threats of violence, and fights between students, with students not being held properly accountable for their actions, often returning back to school and normal classes within a couple hours to a day. Families, while not prohibited, have almost no opportunities to participate in anything at the school. This has been my worst school year yet. If you are thinking about going to this school, please reconsider your options to find something more suitable that wil actually give a good education and make school something to legitimately look forward to.

this is probably the worst school I've ever attended. There're roaches everywhere, teachers are horrible to students, substitute teachers sit on their phones when watching the kids, and the kids are terrible too! They just make fun of everything there.

I have had some of the worst experiences with this school. There is a distinct variance in communication. Either they are calling you every five minutes for things as small as eating chips in the classroom or you receive no communication at all and your child tells you what happened. I have called the school, spoken with one of the many receptionist who got an attitude and placed me on hold while they all left for the day. (30 mins) I have spoken with a BMT and when he was asked a question he began to speak in a condescending tone and abruptly cut me off. I have spoken with their principal who, in an email, made conclusions about the parent child relationship in my home. I feel that many of the administrators and staff behave like the students and stoop to level of pettiness I feel inappropriate for their position. I have been told contradicting information from different members of the staff. I have had teachers ball up my child work and give him a zero for talking. Ive gotten a call because he finished his work and placed his head on his desk and did not talk. If he is out it takes an act of God to get makeup work. I am so happy that he is now moving on to High School. Unfortunately I will not be able to see his ceremony because 3 weeks ago he had to be spoken to by a teacher and is now unable to go. If they spent have as much time on actually grade and test improvement and they do on these other things maybe they would have a higher grade on this site. Other parents may disagree but this has been my experience with my son in this school the past 3 years.

I made the CHOICE for my son to attend Sedgefield rather than overcrowded AG Middle School. Since being at Sedgefield, my son has grown! The teachers and administration care. My son has made honor roll every semester. The principal is committed to turning the reputation of the school around and so are the teachers. I have been pleased from the first day!

I have experienced nothing but horrible things for my child at this school. Kids are out of control. Teachers and staff don't work together to avoid fights from happening. They don't believe in mediation with the students and parents when things are escalating out of control. They go straight to suspending students. My child was constantly being bullied on in school and the minute she complains to teacher or staff they do nothing, so when she later is being attacked on by other students to defend herself, they suspended her. Unbelievable. School should be more focused on trying to find ways to alleviate the students from constantly fighting and being disrespectful. They don't do anything to try to make this school have better rating at all. The students are an issues but that also because the staff and teachers aren't coming together to mediate and bring the parents involved neither. This will be my child last year here and will finish off elsewhere. School needs to also go back to wearing uniforms as well. Feel like there was some form of unity once they had the uniforms, now its just chaos there. Sedgefield needs to close down and reopen with new staff and teachers and policies to keep kids focused on education and not on fighting all day long and there goal should be trying to mediate not suspended students. They never come up with solutions after they suspended and you wonder why the same repeated kids are causing issues. GET PARENTS AND COUNSELORS INVOLVED TO MEDIATE ISSUES BEFORE AND AFTER. Building a solid education should be there FOCUS

Parents,Warning! Please do not send your children to Sedgefield Montessori located at Sedgefield Middle. This school attempts to keep the traditional middle students separate from Montessori students but it creates more problems. The students have many behavioral problems which impacts the learning environment and lacks the necessary character & leadership skills especially in the present principal. I removed my child from this school & will encourage all parents to reconsider sending your children into this school. Anonymous

Sedgefield Middle School will be Charlotte's top middle school.under its new leadership team. The teachers there are 100% dedicated to the vision and mission of the school.
