I checked my son's grades in his silence class and he got a 56 so I check his power school and he had everything completed and all 100s or 80s so I'm confused. This school is very bad this school is a last resort don't let your kids come here.

It has been an awesome experience working with and serving the Ranson community. There is a strong sense of pride at the school and the staff really cares about my child. I am always treated with respect and appreciate how much they pay attention to the all the children. It is a shame to see how black and brown children are treated in other spaces, but here they have a voice. I've had 3 children to attend this school, and one of them is in college on a full academic scholarship. I am thankful for educators who love what they do and care about our children!

My daughter just started at this school 8th grade year. It is the first week of school and her first week here ever and somehow ALL students have lost the privilege to eat in the cafeteria. Supposedly this is a consequence of last year, even though MY child never went here. She said once you go to your hallway you cannot go back up it. The teachers are stating they are afraid of the children and are yelling up the hallways all day at the school according to my child. When I came to pick up my child, they had me show my ID outside the school in the camera and let her out like I was a criminal that couldn’t have access to the school. Not only that my child’s former middle school has called to transfer records and is saying Ranson says she is not enrolled there. They have not requested her records from her prior school so I’m unaware of how they have placed her in classes or have her prior year info. The registrar provides no information about what is required to register the students and denies accountability when told how she lacks communication and pertinent information for your child to have a productive school year. The principal is lacking social skills and has a smart attitude. Don’t bring your children here. My child is getting up out of here as soon as possible. This school is a mini Rikers. Stay away!!

Experiences are what you make them. I had my reservations based on what I heard in the past but have nothing but wonderful things to say about Ranson. I wish people knew more of the positive!

I have had a great experience here. Very family oriented, good communication, and a positive atmosphere. Proud to be a Ranson parent and former student.

So sixth grade was good, middle of the school year, there were fights. The students were getting to comfortable. The year was great, but there were a lot of field trips. Most of which we payed for and were promised things that we did not receive. I say the money for the field trips could have gone to the other grades because in seventh grade, it actually feels like prison. It went from one of the best years ever to a prison just like that. We barely have any free time and the time we do is silently. Lunch is the only way we seventh graders can communicate. We walk in lines EVERY WHERE! While the sixth graders get to walk by themselves to electives! We don't have that freedom, I know it might be for talking problems but it really doesn't help with the whole being independent thing. Also last year in sixth grade, sometimes when we got bagged lunches, the food was sometimes, RAW! I don't know if this was an accident but I wasn't into it. Also one last thing because we could go on forever! When the teachers think some students are breaking rules, THEY PUNISH THE WHOLE CLASS! It is not fair and certain cannot take it and cry! They are not used to it. There are more things to say, I want to stop here...

Most of the teachers my 2 kids encountered there were great teachers! Mr. Bertrand, Ms. Wilson , Mr. Calvin Johnson, Miss Smith, Mr. Brown, Mr. Williams, Ms. Naylor, Mr. Watson, Ms. Edwards and Ms. Hamilton and let's not forget Ms. Ebony Dunham doing her magic in the office! And Miss Alexander was great at keeping things and kids in order while she was there..

Worst school in cms. Some teachers are power hungry control freaks that think they run everything but they don't. This school is prison. You cannot go anywhere by yourself and are transported to your classes in straight lines like prisoners. If you're going to be forced to go to public school at least give freedom. You also can't wear what you want. This school is no fun at all. DO NOT GO HERE

I went here about 4 years ago. I stayed for a year, for sixth grade. This school was HORRIBLE... IB classes and elective classes are co-ed but the other classes, core-subjects, for "regular" kids have only one gender. Girls not in IB go to all-girl classes, and guys would be in all-boy classes. I was in a "regular" science class(other classes were IB classes). It was horrible. It was an all-girls class and the girls weren't girls, they were MONSTERS. No one listened to the teacher, EVER. I only remember having ONE "real" lesson in that class. The teacher always yelled and the girls never listened to her. They were delinquents that boasted about bad things they've done. The IB classes were good, though. Also, there was always a fight... It was bad. I remember there was a day where the fire department came THREE times... In the end, some kids where smoking in the bathrooms. If you have the choice to allow your kids to go to ANOTHER SCHOOL, then do it. Only allow them to go to Ranson if they absolutely have to and they'll die if they don't.

All I have to say is WOW. Decided to visit my daughter and I could not believe how the kids were so disrespectful. I truly feel sorry for the teachers who have to literally yell thru a lessen just to teach. Assistant Principal used the Joe Clark method to constantly yell at students. Teachers seem unmotivated because of a lot of disrepectful kids which in turn reflects on the parents. IB School there is no way. One hour visit had us contemplating transfering our daughter back to JAMES MARTIN!
