I am writing this review as a parent of a special education student with ADHD, and auditory processing disorder, and speech and language delay. My child is in a special day class at this school. From day one they were caring and compassionate. They made my son feel welcome, and most important of all he is learning, something he hasn't done in the past year at his previous school.

Schweitzer is an amazing school. They teach in a workshop model, which allows students to think critically and work collaboratively. Many times my child has come home to tell me principals and teachers from other schools are coming to watch how they teach. They are a Just Think math school that is phenomenal. This is a math program that has a strong number sense foundation. When my 3rd grader came home this year showing me what they did in math, I was in awe. He was doing complex algebra without any hesitation. My child's teacher is very dedicated to his needs. We work as a team to ensure success both at home and school. She finds the time to make every child feel they are important. I've watched her teach and was amazed at the level of thinking, academic language, and collaboration skills her classroom has. She allows them to teach each other. No workbook or worksheets. She has a wide variety of books that are leveled for easy access. She is very involved with her school. She is always there late at night and at every function. Our principal Mr. English, is very active with his teachers and students. I've seen him out on the playground playing football and four square. My child really looks up to him. He knows his students by name and always asks about what they are doing in class. He is dedicated to his staff and students. Our PTA is very strong. They have an amazing president that sends weekly updates to tell families what's been going on and what's coming up. Schweitzer is a school you want your child at. My experience here for the past 5 years has been nothing but awesome. I'm very thankful to have my children go through here and know they will leave with a strong foundation to prepare them for years ahead.

I have been nothing but pleased sending our kids to Schweitzer Elementary. The teachers are wonderful and caring to my children. The school has a neighborhood feel to it, and offers extra activities for the students. I feel my children are well prepared heading into Middle School.

Our family has been party of the Schweitzer community since 2005 and still going. From the get go have been impressed by the great sense of community at this great neighborhood school. The teachers are fantastic, the sense of community is strong, and all the extra programs available (school wide okay, Star Struck, band, choir) give the kids a well-rounded education.

I have three children and my oldest is now in Middle School. We have had nothing but an amazing school experience so far. The teachers and staff give all that they can to these kids and my kids wake up in the morning wanting to go to school. We also have great parent participation, which leads to amazing events and activities that the school provides!!! It is San Juan Unifieds best kept secret!!!

Schweitzer is a well-balanced school for kids of all abilities. We love the resource program as well as the general ed program. Great PTA, teachers, staff, and principal. This is the school to watch in San Juan! Many principals and networks go to Schweitzer to learn from them!!!!

Probably San Juan Unified's best kept secret! The campus is clean and well-manicured. Strong parent involvement. Excellent teachers. The school's focus on academics with an intergration of the arts. All three of my children attended Schweitzer, oldest graduating from high school this year and the youngest still here. Truly a loving environment, I feel very blessed to have been and still a part of.

Schweitzer is a wonderful school. I am thrilled with my decision to choose Schweitzer for my children. There is a balanced focus on academics, the arts, and character building. The teachers are highly trained, genuine and overall top-notch. Many of the teachers have had their own children attend Schweitzer and are highly invested in the school's continued success. The principal is a strong leader who has the full support of his staff & parents and the students love him. There are many friendly and fun families at Schweitzer.

We had 3 kids attend this school. Our eldest we sent all the way through 5th grade. Was totally unprepared for middle school. Pulled our other 2 out. Our middle child struggled to get the services he needed. No care or support received. Moved him to new school where he has since flourished! Some teachers are good. The principal lacks any true enthusiasm and leadership. Poor quality programs. No accountability by the teachers/principal. Students that may have any learning challenges are passed over and made to feel intrinsically responsible for their inability to learn. Our sons teacher was borderline mentally abusive. Once at new school, he became happy, engaged and started to love learning again! Lots of damage done by this school to our kids.

Schweitzer is a wonderful school. The kindergarten program is fantastic. Ms. Anderson makes every situation a learning situation in her kinder/1st grade class and combines science and math with reading, writing, and critical thinking, as well as art and music. Her ability to teach writing and encourage creativity is great. She also develops their social skills - public speaking, thoughtfulness, etc. Every grade is part of a writers workshop, making learning fun and interesting. This is a workshop school, which really gets kids learning. The new principal is wonderful - out on the playground with the kids, available, approachable, and truly works to see the school thrive. The school offers many programs - band, upper and lower grade play, guitar lessons, chess club, and a variety of community sports and scouts are promoted. Every week the students participate in a school-wide sing that teaches music and builds school community. There are special events at the school - a fall festival, winter breakfast, open houses, and many others. The kids are nice and have great manners at school and in public. Test scores reflect absorption of kids from recently closed nearby schools.
