I have been very impressed by the teaching staff at this school. Their level of commitment and caring is exceptional. I found the academic program to be rigorous and I really like the emphasis that is placed on treating others fairly and respectfully.

Cambria Grammar School has some difficulty with their test scores, but they do make up for it in other ways. They are constantly looking for ways to improve and are willing to accommodate each individual student based on their needs. The principal and administration go above and beyond what most would even consider for their students. There are some really great, proactive parents in town that dedicate their time to volunteer. This school is not, in my opinion, an academically rigorous school but a lot of the reason for that is because I know many of the parents and teachers feel this is a time when children should be enjoying their childhood and shouldn't be laden with homework to avoid dissuading the students from enjoyment of the education in general. This is a small, beach town where people very much take time to 'stop and smell the roses' and the school caters to the students based on that lifestyle. Yes, many of the students are in the 'English as a second language' category, but this allows for thought diversity and can be turned into a very positive thing. My only complaint is there is notable segregation between the Hispanic and Caucasian students and I have always felt the best way to counter that and create an equal environment as well as strengthening the students minds would be to make this a dual immersion program. This would probably require funding, though, and would also hurt the test scores for a while, but would be incredibly beneficial to everyone in the long run if the test scores could be overlooked. The years my son went here he thoroughly enjoyed and this school is constantly coming up with innovative ways to progress, as well as implementing new programs.

Tranferred from Lucia Mar School district. We immediately noticed a huge difference in quality and effort being applied by the teachers and staff at Cambria Grammar School. The classroom size in Lucia Mar School District has been over 30 the entire time our kids were enrolled. It is refreshing to have the classroom size around 15-20 at Cambria Grammar. Our children receive much more one on one time and the communication between the faculty and parents is outstanding. I would

Let's stop pretending; this school has suffered terribly with the influx of non-English speaking kids and parents who are to busy to be at the school. The teachers are caring and skilled, but challenged by out of control kids. These kids are left in the classroom to be dealt with by the teachers and are very distracting to the class. This is a policy of a stressed out principal who wants the $ and has no where to send them. It is a sad decline of what was a good school, and there is no hope in site as the numbers continue to head in the wrong direction.
