This is a great school if you are an evil step-parent. The children do not go out to play out side if the teachers “don’t feel like it”. Classes for instruction are also used as break rooms for the staff. Staff enter classrooms they are not assigned to so you do not know who is interacting with your kid. The school updates it’s Instagram but not it’s website. And the PTA advertises Zumba classes in the school communication app. Your child is better off at home. However if you are don’t like your children this is the best school in America.

My family and I are rooting for this school! My son started pre-k this year and so far, so good. Like with any school environment it helps to be present and build good relationships with staff and teachers. It is our neighborhood/zoned school, so it feels important to support it and help it be its best!

If you have any shred of care for your children, please do not send your child to this school! The staff meet the children on the same level with language and behavior. My child has gotten serious injuries due to lack of guidance and structure by the staff all the way from the Principal to the teacher. They like to brush things under the rug to keep their school from getting a bad name. The children are wild rude and unfortunately, in bringing my daughter here she has just adapted to the crowd, staff likes to complain, however they are the ones who set the stage to portray idealistic behaviors, academically and socially, and if this lacking by the staff how are the students to adapt this. Poor choice in school that I may regret for the rest of my life, so please if you care for your children do not enroll them in this school! They need to be shut down!

The one positive about this school is the proximity to our home. Other than that, I am horrified. My child can certainly be a bit talkative due to being excited about being with classmates and engaging in the whole learning process, but arrived to join the pre-k program as a well-spoken, well-mannered 3 year-old, with advanced education from home schooling combined with a great daycare structure received from 9 mths. The teachers admittedly pointed out that our child was advanced & it would be difficult for them to provide a curriculum for children with different/advanced levels of education. Because their program lacks the enrichment & challenge for children with advanced education levels, we've found that our child has lost some of the excitement for learning. If not for our continued efforts at home, we believe our child would have lost all zeal completely. Our child has developed a mechanism in which to purposely dumb-down and pretend to not know the work so as to receive some type of attention in the school environment. BTW, the homework given is beyond sub-par with grammatically incorrect & unclear directions. The school's programs are severely lacking.

PS 138 is a great school. I have a 5th grader and a 1st grader, and both are in JPL.

Most teachers are great but also some have given up... One day coming in the school an eight grader was shouting at the guard saying, "P*#@!Y" and the guard shouted the same bad word out...WOW!!!

My kindergarten son has been involved with a series of incidents in both the cafeteria and the gym since entering 138 this year. He has come home with a bloody nose, a bump on his head after having it slammed on the cafeteria table, and he had a spork thrust into his eye. I spoke to both the principal, the assistant principal for the lower grades, and the dean of discipline to no avail. The school has a serious problem with a lack of security and attentive personnel. This is a very dysfunctional school and the administration is nothing but inept. I believe it should be shut down or completely revamped. Similar to what a previous posting mentioned, when I complained to the principal she did not say anything and was unable to maintain eye contact with me.
