I believe the school is a great school, it’s not perfect and you will find teachers who are not on a level, where they should be but it definitely changed from when the Female principal was there. Mr. Lewis changed the school and opened it up for his students and parents well-being, he was serious about curriculum but was also serious about fun. The current principal Mr Wiltshire worked under Mr.Lewis and has been trying, he may have different ways of handling things, but it’s his passion for his students. Both principles believe in having work and play in a balanced environment.

This is not a welcoming environment. DO Not send your children to be under the care of a violent principal Latasha Williams. She has threatened bodily harm in a verbal disagreement.

Previously, the school had a warm and embracing environment. Parents received information in a timely manner and was always welcomed at the school. Recently, the rapid changes in academics, family engagement, and student motivation has fallen to an all-time low. Administration is not open to meetings and family support. Safety around the school is questionable. The school is falling apart at this point.

Pros: Dedicated Teachers. Almost always available. Has high expectations. Work with students to succeed in class. Cons: High turnover rate, too many students in a classroom. Teachers need more support. 5th graders do not take any social studies, health or any science based classes. Not many extracurricular activities. No after school program for 5th graders. When school began dismissal was at 4:30pm then they changed to 4pm two months later. I received a letter that dismissal will be at 4:20pm next school year but that might change too. Too many half days of And too many days off through out the school year. It's not for everyone but there are a lot of student who succeed. Some might feel it's like a detention center. Very rigid. if you're looking for a progressive hands on approach this is not it but if you're looking for a traditional education but without text books this MAY be the place for your child. Just know what best works for your child before enrolling. Also school year begins about 2/3 weeks before DOE w/ 1PM DISMISSAL EVERYDAY. Very inconvenient for working parents.

This is a great school. My 10 year old was recently transfered to Kipp Amp Charter School. It was a tough transition and there were a lot of challenges that factor into this: Different school, change in environment, new friends etc. It was fair to say that he was not a happy camper. But all that changed after he was able to adjusted to he new shool. After parent/teachers conference I am confident that the second quarter will be an amazing one, especially with the new programs that teachers and Principle has implemented. My new son's attitude towards his new school is very positive. He's starting to accept the changes even tells me how much he loves his new Home Room(Harvard). I believe with the continuous help from Parents, Teachers, and Principle and everyon involve in making this a great school our Scholars will strive and "Build a better tomorrow for themselves and us all" This is why I give Kipp Amp 5 stars*********

Growing up in public school myself, and seeing my children go through the system, I have only been nothing but disappointed in the public school system and its callous way of only preparing children to take a test at the end of every year. I researched what charter schools have to offer, and I learned through a friend about Kipp Amp. What I heard and saw through my friend impressed me, no, it gave me hope for my children. My children LEARN. They now have discipline, they are being taught solid studying and learning ethics in an environment where the teachers do not waste half of the period getting the children to settle down. The teachers call me and my wife with any and all issues to keep us up to date with our children's progress. The quality of teacher involvement and interest feels genuine and gives me confidence that my children are in not only a completely educational environment, but a caring one as well The teachers at Kipp Amp have energy, interest and soul in what they teach. With Kipp, I see a future with my children that I did not have when I went through public school. If I could attend Kipp myself, I would be more confident in my future of education.

I am an artist and I have painted murals in a few of the classrooms at the Brooklyn location. I have noticed Kipp is dedicated to the success of its students by providing a strict dress code and additional class time. School is a time to focus on academics and discipline not what trendy outfit or make-up youre wearing. Also, violence can happen anywhere in or around any school no matter the location i.e Virgina Tech, Columbine. Its the duty of the parents and educators to make the best of the situation the provided and to keep students and staff a safe as possible. I am convinced Kipp does a wonderful job at that.

The location of this school alone is reason for concern. Since my son has been in attendance (almost 2 years), there has been several crime incidents, shootings, etc. Children are dismissed at night with no supervision. Parent-school communication is lackluster. Teachers are evasive & defensive. More often than not, expact that no one will answer the phone when you call. The school does not use textbooks/notebooks. My child brings home about 50 sheets of loose paper per night-Be prepared for your new job as paper manager!Children are in school for 10.5 hrs/day & still come home w/ 9-12 pages of homework. Children are left to make their own educational decisions such as choosing between getting homework help & going to extra curricular activities. Aesthetics is very poor. Library consists of two broken up bookshelves and books stacked in containers on the floor-It has been "under construction" since my son started 2 years ago. The student bathrooms are the filthiest I've seen at any school. My child avoids using it if he can. One plus about the school is the music instruction. The jazz band instruction provided by Mr. Chandler is very impressive and definitely a unique opportunity
