I would not recommend this school for kids who have any special education needs, they are not equipped nor have any interest to support children with learning differences. Proper IESP are not formed so kids are often counseled out. Something to take into consideration if your child is not a neurotypical leaner.

My son has been attending Greene Hill School for 5 years now, and he LOVES school, which is really all I've ever wanted. He is excited to go and loves talking about what he does at school every day. The school's slower, low pressure approach, that leaves lots of time for creativity and community has been a great match for his personality. His projects are complex and he has grown into an incredible collaborator and communicator - which I credit entirely to GHS. Plus, I know everyone there, he knows everyone there. He feels supported and valued in a way I don't think he would in a bigger school environment.

My 8 year old daughter has been at Greene Hill since she was 5. And she is thriving (even with the impact of the pandemic!). She is an avid and curious learner, excited by new areas this year (like math, cursive and social studies!) The progressive curriculum and commitment to social and racial justice are helping her (and us!) become a thinking and caring citizen. I couldn't be happier. Nor could she! Check out Greene Hill yourself.

Our sons had many wonderful moments at this school; they had great friends and amazing teachers. We forgave many growing pains at GHS, as it was a new school operating with limited funds. However, our youngest son being forced out without warning or reason on the last day of 5th grade, is a situation we simply can't overlook. We feel the school will never be all that it can be without smarter, more thoughtful leadership.

Overall Greene Hill is an absolute amazing school. I cannot imagine my daughter and son going anywhere else! They are very different individuals and GHS is able to foster their talents and strengths while making them feel unique and special within a classroom environment.

Greene Hill School is a very special place. My daughter started this year in the 6th grade after 5 years in public school. We were hoping that Greene Hill would reignite her love of learning, and after one year we see a big change our kid. She has become more confident and secure, and is excited about school again. All of her teachers are passionate about teaching and are extremely creative with the material – which is so exciting for the kids. The work is also rigorous, but the environment is not stressful. We love the parent community, and Greene Hill’s commitment to be a part of the Ft. Greene community at large. Community service is a big part of schools mission, and my daughter has become more compassionate and aware of her surroundings as a result. The tuition is tiered which makes for a much more diverse group of kids than in a traditional private school. If you are looking for a top notch school that’s a bit under the radar (but probably not for long…) this is a ideal environment for kids preschool -8th grade. I only wish they had a high school!

We feel like we won the Middle School Lottery: A chance meeting, lead to us learning about the Greene Hill School Community and gave our son a wonderful opportunity and his parents, a happy 6th grader who loves his school community and looks forward to learning and collaborating with his peers and teachers everyday!

We love Greene Hill and feel so lucky to be part of this school! The school is progressive but very structured which seems to work well for everyone. Every day the kids have Open Work where they do everything from Civil War dioramas to origami to chess. The curriculum includes Spanish, music, arts lab, movement.... the older kids have computer, guitar and running club. The parents are a nice mix of lawyers, artists and yoga teachers. A welcoming and relaxed place.

My son is finishing up his second year at Greene Hill and we've loved the school from day 1. Every teacher he has had has been fantastic. Class sizes are small; everyone knows each other; and it's a very supportive and involved community. Lots of creative, project-based work, which is what drew us to GHS in the first place.
