We've had good quality teachers, and our experience has exceeded my expectations. I like the school's small size with large district amenities.

I could write a book on the horrible things this school has done to our family. I'll just leave it at my once constantly smiling kid has threatened to kill himself, his mental health has declined terribly and he constantly says how much he hates school. They have refused to follow his IEP from day 1, withheld his IEP mandated AIDE which caused my son to decline and fail in class. Lied to us about numerous things. Guilted and bullied us into putting my son into this terrible "Rise Academy" they created(my son was out of special needs class in 2nd grade and was in a full time classroom before moving him here). My son comes home covered in bruises and scratches, telling me how he was beat up or chased in class almost daily. How he gets in trouble and forced into "REBOOT" all because he runs away from the kids that are chasing or hitting him. I get phone calls about how it's my son's fault because he needs "to learn about people's personal space" (the teacher asked him to put up crayons and another kid choked him for it) or he wasn't allowed on "that part" of the playground and he should have known better (some kids cornered my child and beat him up). Don't get me wrong, my kid has his own set of issues and he's not an angel, but NO child deserves to be treated the way he has been at this facility. He was set up for failure from day 1. Yesterday I received an email asking when my son's appointment to be medicated was.....I've already contacted the director of special services and the superintend about these issues in the past and am contacting them again. My son is not getting the education he deserves because this facility had an agenda to launch a new special needs program.

The previous reviews are pretty inaccurate. This school is absolutely amazing!! We are also a military family and just had to PCS to Mississippi... I was completely devistated and heartbroken. Aspen Creek was like a second home for us. Mr. Smith (the principal) and Mrs. Long (the assistant principal) always made time for any issues or concerns we had... Which there were none with the school, just personal family issues for my stepson... My son attended K-2 here and I was completely blown away by the love and compassion the teachers have for each and every student.... No child did without, and every staff memeber made sure of that! If the teachers didn't have a resource they felt was necessary, they chipped in and bought it together to make sure the children had every chance to learn. Teachers are very involved in children's behavior, success in class, and learning capabilities, all you have to do is let them know what you expect and how involved you want to be. It is so easy to blame the teachers or children, but no one ever wants to take into consideration what their child is doing wrong. Bullying is NOT ok and I have never witnessed bullying at Aspen Creek the 3 years we have been there. The school counselor even does a program as part of the specials curriculum to cut down on bullying... Kids will be kids, they will pick and play with one another, if your kid is constantly coming home upset because he's being "picked on" or "bullied" go to the school and get involved. They welcome any and all parents or guardians to come. I love love love Aspen Creek, and if we had it our way we would have extended our duty station in OK just to keep our son there! We love and miss you Aspen Creek staff! You've set the bar so high for other schools!

Coming from a military family, we have been to a LOT of different elementary schools. My youngest started the school year for the first time. He started out in 5th grade, and while he is an introverted child (with some focus issues) he has NEVER been a disciplinary issue before. The children were NOT nice, bullying happened daily, but kids will be kids, and I don't blame the school (entirely) for that. What I WILL complain about is the lack of communication from the school. I'll admit, my son stinks at bringing home papers, but in this day and age, there are other ways to get information out to parents. One school we went to instead of killing trees and burdening families with TONS of take home flyers scanned all the flyers and emailed them to all the parents (with the option of those without internet to still ask the school to send them home... saved the school thousands in office supplies budget and took less time to scan the documents once than make hundreds of copies and pass them out, I know because I was on the PTA when we evaluated the effectiveness of this plan after a year of implementing it). Another school offered online weekly newsletters that had ACTUAL important events (such as picture day... this school, I've missed BOTH picture days because the school has not put them on the calendar, I know I CHECK weekly). The school HAS a Facebook page but lacks the forward thinking to use it as an effective tool to get information out to parents (unless it's dress up week for Dr. Seuss or the PTA's movie night). Mandatory choir concert for 5th graders? Found out the day before, sorry I had to work, so my kid missed it! I have received email notifications from my kid's teacher telling me permission slips were due yesterday, instead of saying, I dunno, hey they're due tomorrow? Again, I'll admit my kid is forgetful, but why can't the teachers/staff be more proactive like other schools?! If I had not had MUCH better experiences at ALL the other 6 elementary schools we've been enrolled in (including an international one in a 3rd world country), I would dismiss it as par for the course. I'm active in my children's lives, I go to parent teacher conferences, and email teachers when I know there's an issue, I'm not a lazy parent, but I definitely feel out of the loop with this school!!!
