We have been in the dual language program at Woodin for two years now, and I am always thankful we chose this school over our home school. Not only are the teachers loving, kind, respectful, patient, understanding and collaborative, they treat every child like their own. From the office staff, to the principals, they are angels. They have a lot of resources and para educators for students that need extra support, and have programs for children that require advanced education. Everyone is treated equally and the community is something you will be honored to witness and be apart of.

Woodin Elementary staff is exemplar of educators who care deeply about their students' educational experience and personal growth. Every year my son and daughter have had wonderful teachers. My son has learning differences and the staff have offered him comprehensive support through out the IEP process and goal setting for academic achievement. It's wonderful to watch him blossom as a learner and gain confidence in his skills. I highly recommend this school!

They hurt my son beyond words. He will be scarred for life from the effects of what was done to him. If your child has any sort of special needs look elsewhere. They do not know what they are doing. This seems to be a trend within the Northshore School District. If your child is “highly capable,” you will be well served, but if your child is “twice exceptional” or has any sort of learning disability, they do way more harm than good. They shirk off the responsibility and blame the parents, when in reality there is a lot they could do, but won’t.

Our school has a great sense of community. Staff work very hard to build relationships with children. Our kids are very happy here and are doing well academically.

Honestly, we're sorry we sent our child to this school for the 2nd part of her elementary school experience (she went to a fantastic school for the first part). I'm glad it works out for some kids, but our child had such a poor experience here between a couple of teachers and the bullying kids, that even her good experiences with the lovely teacher were overshadowed. And honestly, the educational experience was middling at best. If I could do it over, I'd choose a different school.

We've had a fabulous experience with Woodin - this year, the class sizes were tremendous, no more than 20 in the single-language 1st grade rooms. I find the administration caring and competent, and same goes for the teachers we've encountered so far. It's a shame that Greatschools doesn't seem to distinguish that this school is home to the Northshore School District's dual-language program, which makes a warm and welcoming home for the large Hispanic population of the area, while giving all kids in the district a chance to become bilingual at the ages when it's most effective to learn a second language. The recent introduction of their Problem-Based Intervention and Support (PBIS) has had a positive impact on the school community; I know my student appreciates the focus on being a good community member, and was reciting the "we take care of ourselves, we take care of our classmates, we take care of our community" (I think I got that right) motto from the first day of school onward.

Our experience has been very positive. It is sad there are so many outdated reviews especially since there is now a new principal and vice principal and the school is great. They really love the kids and the kids love them! My son is in first grade, there were 21 kids in his class. It was not a dual class. There were 6 first grade classes if I remember correctly and none of them were dual.

Relatively new to this school but overall we have been so impressed. Third elementary my child has attended and by far the best! Teachers communicate effectively and kids seem to be very happy here. Nice cultural diversity which is embraced. Dual language set up makes the school feel much small as most the students have a 50/50 chance of being with the same classmates each year. Active PTA and parent involvement. School is dated and in need of some improvements and the pick up/ drop off system is difficult!

If I email you because my child is in your class, and I have a question, would you respond? If I email you because my child was hurt at school, would you respond? The answer is NO! Funny story, I chaperoned a field trip to Everett and some high school theatre. Waiting for the bus rounds the corner, a TON of kids. About four minutes later, here comes the 5/6 grade Woodin teachers. And I hear one saying, I hope they all made it OK. These teachers from 3-4-5-6...honestly don't give a flip. We cannot wait to leave Woodin.

I am sure the dual language program is fabulous with smaller class sizes. However, all the "selected" kids with PTO moms get into that program. This leaves the class that are not dual language with all the behavior problems. All the teachers do is try to manage classroom behavior. I went on a field trip last year with my child's class, and I was embarrassed by the behavior. The kids were rude and disruptive to the speaker. The teacher had no control. Last year, our class had 27 or 28 students where dual language had 20. Teachers' websites are not up-to-date, and there is little teacher communication. Also, most non-dual language classes are split grades...ie 3/4, 5/6. Bottom of a split is great if you have a high achieving student. But this school failed their AYP for the second year. What do you think is easier, Woodin? Teaching one grade or two? We wish we would have moved schools when the Choice Program was offered. If you have the choice, you should choose a different school.

Our experience at Woodin was poor, primarily due to the principal. I had serious concerns about my child and teacher and scheduled multiple appointments with the principal which she would cancel repeatedly at the last minute. When I went in to finally meet her she was rude and demeaning, acting as if the school issue were really a parent/discipline issue. We got no support when we asked for it and when we pushed for it she suggested that maybe we should leave the school. I am a rational, responsible parent and have now been happily at another school for several years receiving the appropriate support for my son. If your child needs any special services these will not be met well at Woodin. This was not just my experience, but the experience of other parents I spoke to.
