In 2021 we moved to town. My child started school mid year. His teacher was attentive and helpful. My son struggles with adhd. His teacher was in contact and was proactive about getting a 504 plan. She also looked beyond his behavior and helped identify him for the GRO program. My son’s teacher for the next year was also amazing. She forged a deep connection with him and went above and beyond. I am thrilled with the school system. My son loves school now and looks forward to seeing his friends and teachers.

This is a great school as far as the passion, enthusiasm and expertise of the teachers. The student body is diverse and the kids seem very happy and comfortable. It is also economically diverse so I find the kids to be kind and nonjudgemental and inclusive with each other. I would agree that there is not enough diversity in staff and certainly not in the PTA. Most PTAs are clicky, and because this PTA is so active it can feel like the school "belongs" to those families involved, which are almost all white. I do not see this in the classroom but I do think it would help for diversity to be a focus of hiring going forward and for school staff to perform more outreach to get families that may have relocated to the community or have English as a second language involved. As a white parent I want all the kids, including mine, to get the message that the school belongs to all of them equally, and for kids, who they see volunteering at the library or running the snack table can influence that feeling. I have no doubt about more inclusiveness being welcomed - I think it is a matter of lack of effort and focus on inclusion, and lack of sensitivity to diverse needs and priorities and the need for proactive effort.
I agree with other Asian parent, I too felt the same way about teachers, PTA and principal were not paying attention to my kids.

I landed on this site while I looking something up about schools. I am an ex-Intervale parent (as of this year) and I am an Asian as well. Scratching my head-off as to why would someone make a statement to avoid this school if you are an Asian. Both my kids came from private schools to Intervale and thrived. Unbiased teachers and always-available to talk to you teachers.

To so called Asian parent - you have right to have an opinion but facts are different things. Please check PDF link below from state of new jersey which clearly shows where 3rd and 4th grader Asian kids are not advanced proficient. http://www.state.nj.us/education/pr/1213/27/273950064.pdf (Please check page 5) I sincerely thinks, Asian kids were not paid attention to. My opinion to all Asian kids & parent still stands based on above information to avoid this school if you can.

Teachers are OK. Principal is mediocre. School gives awards to people who part of the inner circle and others get a cold shoulders. Principal run this school like a family business where "family" comes first and rest get below avg. scores as stated in another post. 3rd and 4th grade teachers don't pay attention to asian kids and NJASK score reflects that. If you look at littleton/lake parsippany - asians score are much better than here. I wish we had a school choice. Avoid this school if you are an asian, sorry but true.

Intervale school is great school with wonderful teachers around. My son always learn new things and look forward to go to school. Each student is monitored very closely and I always receive honest feedback from teachers. Also appreciate their Principal whose outstanding leadership makes it stand apart.

This seems to be an excellent school. The school consists of great teachers, an excellent principal all of whom who have outstanding thought leadership to inculcate good learning habits for children at their elementary stage. I am sure that students who study in Intervale elementary will scale greater heights in their middle and high school levels and post that.
