Benson Elementary School is a good example of lack of community and town support stacked with county and lack of state funding. Our children are attending Benson Elementary, they love the atmosphere and positive vibe. As parents that are involved with our children we see teachers trying and mostly succeeding in educating with the tools they have. Although some tools are outdated. But on the flipside teachers are leaving for different career choices. The new principal Mrs Dunston is making positive changes but without the support of others it a very hard battle and the education suffers.

I have raise 4 different kids that I removed from Benson Elementary School. The staff is horrible. The receptionist are lazy and rude and they speak to you like a child. They barely answer the phone or know what they are doing. They are arrogant and even the kids are different. I have tried to enroll my kids for 5 weeks have have had to call the school bored twice. They give me a paper at the last minute that I have to get notarized less than a day before school starts because they don't have a notary. On the first day of school I want to come in at 9 with the paper after I got it notarized.. and the receptionist tells me my child can't start school today!! Because they couldn't get their job done!!. This school is a joke!

You only fit in if you know someone in the school. Benson Elementary is a very different school then Any other that my children have been too. The Principal and Assistant is not very friendly. They are not there for the children, they are there for a pay check. I hope this school get better but the way things look it will remain the same. My Children has been here for three years in this school. They do have some great teachers. Mrs. Barefoot the K teacher is great and there is a few others. I was told from the principal that sometimes your child has to hit the bottom and that I as a parent can't help. What a Principal!! I'm a very involved parent and wish Benson Elementary changes for our children so NO CHILD IS LEFT BEHIND!!!! To me that is what this school is doing. Is leaving the children behind.
