Great experience. Teachers care about students and making it fun for kids to be there. My son even had great experience during Covid time ( with online education - the school teachers managed to make it fun for kids). I am really happy with the experience.

Average at best. Yes building is great and they have money to provide good resources but not all teachers are good and the principal is pretty inexperienced…the PTA is mainly concerned about fundraising and stocking up the teachers’ lounge! We moved our kid to another Bellevue school and are all happier!

The school has wonderful, long-tenured teachers who truly care about students. The schools’ programs are amazing as I have observed them closely as a volunteer parent. I am so thankful that we are part of the Clyde Hill Elementary community.

I volunteer and am amazed at the resources and nurturing that the students have access too. Great community engagement as well.

We love the new building, the values that the school instills, and the warmth of the teachers (for the most part) at Clyde Hill. However, the amount of screen time that the children are allowed to watch—starting from kindergarten—is atrocious and outrageous. They watch Netflix shows and YouTube videos all the time every single day. They often watch shows during snacks and lunch, which should be great periods for the kids to socialize and learn to interact with each other. Screen time just simply shouldn’t be used in the manner allowed by the school, particularly given the national guidelines.

School has good reading instructors. CHE is under the construction. Looking forward to the new building this fall.

This is a school for round pegs to fit into round holes. Square pegs will not fit or succeed here. My son has a lot of strengths. He's creative. He's intelligent. He's friendly. He likes to tell jokes. He loves to share. He doesn't hesitate to share his opinion. Unfortunately, he has a very low tolerance for boredom. My son struggled at this school for three years before I finally pulled him out and decided to homeschool him. He's been diagnosed with ADHD. He has a lot of trouble focusing. I won't deny that. His behavior is fine at home, but he was having frequent outbursts at school. Sometimes they were emotional only - crying, tears, asking to go to the hallway because he was too upset to be in the classroom. It eventually got to the point where he was throwing and breaking things. He never acts like this anywhere else. We got him an IEP and were told there would be accommodations made for him, but I feel like they were only doing the bare minimum. I was told he would be allowed to type assignments because he has trouble with writing. He wasn't. The class frequently took handwritten notes, and he could never keep up, which lead to a lot of frustration. He was forced to take tests at the front of the class room - we were told he would be able to go somewhere quiet for tests. This made him feel humiliated and eventually lead to at least one of his outbursts. The classroom *was* provided with an assistant who could help him 1 on 1, but the school complained he was taking too much of her time. The previous year his teacher would frequently write lengthy notes about his poor behavior which he had to bring home to us, but when he had a day of good behavior we would get a simple "10/10" with nothing else for positive reinforcement. His not paying attention is worth writing a paragraph about, but his completing his work in class isn't? Way to be supportive of a kid who is struggling with self esteem issues. On top of that, the office was staffed with incorrigible gossips.I'm exasperated. Frankly, trying to homeschool him while working a job with long hours is exhausting and I can't keep it up. I'm afraid to try another public school with him after my experience with Clyde Hill. Don't make the mistake we did. If your child is not "neurotypical", please find another school, or you'll be having lots of meetings with administration which help no one.

Our daughter has been at CHES for 2 years. We've been very impressed by the attentiveness of her teachers across the board. The school is great at communicating what's going on in the classroom and it's nice to have a variety of activities like PE, music, art, etc. Field trips are great too. The school also has wonderful reading instructors- something that has been a great help to our child. On the down side- the building is quite worn out and not super nice considering the neighborhood. We hear it's going to be torn down and rebuilt in 2-3 years. The other thing is constant fundraising. We donate, but at the same time, our property taxes are going up literally 15-20% every year, which we'd hope would fund the schools well (and then some). All around positive experience, great staff.

We've been at this school for 6 years with all of our kids attending here for all of their elementary years. The teachers are great, the principals have been great and the academics are rigorous and for some of my kids, it's been overwhelming and at times I've been frustrated with the amount of homework expected. All in all, it been a mostly positive experience for my kids. I will say, that the one big negative is, if you do not live in "Clyde Hill" city itself there is a social divide amongst the parents. There is an us and them feel to the school based on where you live and it does affect your child's friendships. It has a social hierarchy and that is a huge frustration and can leave you feeling on the outside and eventually affect who your kid gets to hang out with. I've seen it happen with each of my kids and it is a huge bummer.

Positives: - Great staff - We had great teachers in our 3 years at the school. Negatives: - Very crowded classes - Every year, in addition to the crowd, we had at least one problem kid distracting the whole class. If your kid is at least an average, be ready that he/she won't learn much due to class sizes and distractions at the class. All academically good kids in our class that I know was supplemented by outside tutors. - Snotty parents - Be prepared to be bullied as a parent, if you are not white & American & PTSA mom. - PTSA moms' kids get treated better in every way. One example, if your mom is volunteering at the library, you can get one more book than other kids (whose parents are working, hence couldn't volunteer).

Many parents only wish they could put their litte darlings at CHES! Our oldest son (17) attended the school (K-5) and our second child is there and currently in 2nd grade. This is a very good school with strong leadership and many caring teachers. These past 2 years our son has benefited from a husband & wife team of teachers who are rigorous, yet kind, patient, understanding, and possess a good sense of humor. Honestly, being quite demanding myself, I feel that CHES is just fine. The student population is increasingly ethnically diverse each year, and it's obvious that CHES is attracting a high percentage of Asian families through its strong teaching credentials. We weren't so impressed with Chinook Middle School (next door) and hopefully that school will be better once the reconstruction is completed in the next two years. CHES is the right size, the support is there, the kids are well behaved (no bullying at all), and it's nice to see your tax dollars aren't being wasted for a change. Thanks CHES.

After school childcare program is unprofessional. My child was injured on the playground and left to take care of herself. Too many kids crammed into a small space.

Every school has negatives & positives. But this schools negatives are far more than the positives.

This is a great school with hardworking teachers and staff, as well as a strong parent community. Every school will have its struggles in these tough economic times, but its people not money that will pull Clyde Hill through.
