Shady Brook is an amazing school built on community and the inclusiveness! We absolutely love all of the teachers and staff and how they genuinely care for and support the students- it’s a special place!

Shady Brook is a great school and my kid loves going and learning. From The wonderful Principal Martin on down, there are some great teachers who treat the kids as their own and foster a caring, nurturing environment. Initially when we moved to Bedford 5 years ago, we were apprehensive about the scores on the internet, but boy were they wrong. Top elementary school in HEB isd and it shows.

We have been at Shady Brook for over 4 years now and love the heart of the teachers and leadership. There are many teachers who have been at Shady Brook for over 10 years and are so dedicated to the students which speaks highly to their commitment and the environment of the school not having a lot of turnover. There are great programs for the kiddos to be challenged and a wonderful PTA creating community and after school programs to bring families together.

Both of our boys, kindergarten and 1st, love attending Shady Brook! The staff is so nice and welcoming and do whatever they can to make school a positive experience! We’ve been very pleased with how they’ve allowed our boys to thrive by meeting their academic needs with the GT program and more tailored coursework. These teachers work so hard to meet the needs of all students and we really appreciate all that they do!

Ms Martin and her staff are nothing short of amazing and we really appreciate everything they do for the students. They are so warm and caring and really get to know each of the students and their families. We have been so pleased with their ability to accommodate and tailor learning experiences for students of all levels, especially with the identification of GT students starting as early as kindergarten. Our boys also enjoy participating in the Suzuki program and have really progressed in their individual cello lessons. We absolutely love Shady Brook!

As a community member, parent, and educator I can say without hesitation that we love Shady Brook. Both my children are in the GT program with an amazing teacher. We also participate in the Suzuki Strings program which has enabled my kids to learn to play the cello while at school. The Suzuki teacher is highly skilled and highly effective. The administration, staff, and teachers promote an environment of kindness always putting the students needs first.

We have been at Shady Brook since my daughter was in kindergarten. She goes into 6th grade next year. Every year we have had warm, caring, highly skilled teachers. They not only help our children learn, they help them thrive. The school community is a kind and caring group of wonderful parents and teachers. My son is starting second grade next year and in the GT program with a great teacher. The Suzuki String program has enabled my kids to learn about music in a fun environment. The Suzuki teacher is highly skilled and highly effective. The administration, staff, and teachers put the kids and their needs first. They always promote an environment of kindness. We love Shady Brook!

Unfortunately most of our experience at SBE has been during Covid times but we have a 4th grader and a 6th grader at SBE in the 20-21 school year. Our kids have spent most of the year virtually learning and I can’t praise their teachers enough. Their willingness and ability to flex to this degree, prepare virtual lessons, be creative, engage the kids with enthusiasm and love through the screen...amazing! Both of my kids love SBE and enjoy going to school. Neither have reported bullying or an unkind experience, ever. The school offers lots of fun activities/family nights and pep rally’s but not after school clubs. The population is diverse, racially and socioeconomically, so there seem to be varying levels teachers have to teach to. That diversity is brought us TO Shady Brook! Our son is in the GT program and has received a good level of challenge through that experience. Our daughter plays the cello through the Suzuki program offered at SBE. The counselor and administrators are awesome, readily available and promptly respond to questions/concerns. We are all so happy with our experience at Shady Brook!

My child has been attending Shady Brook Elementary for four years. I have the highest regard for the teachers, leadership, and support this school offers. They are very dynamic with regards to learning difference and cultures. Shady Brook is very inclusive. I feel the staff tailors teaching and support on an individual basis. I have always been able to contact teachers and other staff directly. I have always felt like my child and I are heard and very much cared about. This school loves their kids. Bullying is absolutely not tolerated and is talked about frequently. Each year has been such a great experience for my child. Each day they are are safe, loved, and being prepared to be successful in the world.

The teacher seem nice, however I do not think that much attention is placed on the children struggling to keep up In a school of choice.

My son has attended Shady Brook for two years. I can’t wait for my younger boy to start next year. Hoping he gets the same great Kindergarten teacher, but I know all of them are excellent. My son is in the gifted program and receives specialized attention for his learning needs. He’s had great experiences with every member of the staff. We love Shady Brook!

Stay away from this school if you can afford to. Teachers and staff are overwhelmed and unprepared to deal with the overcrowded classrooms. Shady Brook is zoned to receive almost all of the kids from the apartments in North Bedford. This has led to over crowded classrooms that are full of low income students. If your child is remotely academic they will receive no one on one teaching due to the fact that the classes are overcrowded. All these teachers do is focus on teaching the STAR tests in order to achieve "no child left behind." Seriously terrible school academically!

We had our son here last year in kindergarten, we have struggled with finding a diagnosis for him for three years . He has behavior problems. My husband and I went to the school and had a meeting with principle , vice principle counselor and teacher to let them know what to expect . It took all year and a phone call to the super-attendant to get and ARD meeting set up. They frequently took what limited outside time they give to the children away from our son as a punishment . They said they were encouraging him however every day ( not exaggerating) his problems were pointed out in front of class members other, adults and to us in front of our son . Even a member of their own staff verbally disagreed with the approach they were taking with him . The principle and vice principle Have on multiple occasions physically restrained him and cornered him in a room with more then 2 adults. We would be notified after the fact . If you have a child with special needs I strongly recommend trying to get in to another school . We moved
