This is a charter school. Because of this, you apply through a lottery in the winter of the year before kindergarten to get into the lottery. In the spring you’ll be notified if your child is in or waitlisted. If the waitlist number isn’t too high, you might clear it. It’s worth the hoping and waiting. The students have two full time adults in the classroom through third grade. One is their teacher and the other is support. Students get a lot of attention because of this model. Security is solid, carpool is efficient and best of all people are happy to be there whether they’re students, staff, families etc.

RCS is such a fantastic school. I see some older reviews here that talk about leadership, but Rob Bechtold has done an outstanding job of creating such a safe, inclusive, inviting environment for the students and families. All of the staff clearly want to be there and want to give it thier all for each and every student. It really has an affect on me every time I get to visit. Everyone is listening to the students and supporting them. The staff cares so much for every student and family. The curriculum is very good, my children have excelled. The emotion teaching has made a difference for my kids, I love that the school is helping young people learn emotional regulation, it is such an undervalued skill. I could go on forever about how wonderful it is.

Riverview has been wonderful for my two children. I love that it is uses the Responsive Classroom and has a whole child approach. The teachers and staff are supportive, organized, and caring!

I am a current student at this school (2022) and all I can say is that it’s awful. I’ve been here since 4th grade and it’s been the worse experience. The teachers are mean. I’m in the eighth grade currently and teachers hit kids with rulers, spray kids with water, yell at kids in front of the class, manipulate, etc. The kids are even worse. Bullying is not solved here. I was being bullied and it was not getting solved. I’d go to counselors crying, begging them to do something about the bullying but it kept happening. The kids won’t ever shut up. The classrooms are toxic. I feel like I don’t learn anything here. This school ruined my mental health, take my advice and do not send your kids here.

This school caters only to a certain type of students, not children with disabilities.

With regards to Riverview, my best advice is "don't believe the hype." The school has serious problems with leadership, communication and prioritizing. There are some other amazing options for schools in the area that offer a more seasoned, responsive and effective leadership team.

Academically the school itself is a great school. They put the effort, time, and resoures into teaching and making their students successful. The only negative is the lack of diversity in both students and teachers. While photos they post try to portray themselves as diverse it surely is not. And that lottery system is a joke. Honestly, as an African American family I do feel out of place, BY SOME STAFF MEMBERS, who do make us feel not equal nor welcome. Covert racism. The kind that flashes a fake smile to your face but doesnt speak and side eyes you as far in the building as they can. Not saying the school itself promotes that though. But you can tell the school has its preferences, which is white upper middle class families. Other than that a really good school.

Our experience at this school has been exceptional. My child loves coming to school every day, she is known by every adult (staff and volunteers) in the building, and she is in a highly diverse classroom where the learning of every student is personalized to each child, where they are and with the needs they bring to the school. The school's curriculum is unlike any other in the county, their educational philosophy of experiential education makes learning accessible (and fun!) for students, and the entire school community feels like an extended family. We are so grateful that our daughter's number was called in the lottery -- there is a LONG list of folks applying to this school, because of its success -- and couldn't ask for more from the school.

I don't hear a lot of bad things about this school, but people that come to my shop tell me how it is a private school for free. That's not right. My grandson goes to a public school and they got all kinds of hooligans there and they can't kick them out. That's not fair. We've applied every year. Seems like only rich fancy people get in.

Incredible education! This school is the #1 school in the county in my opinion! We are so pleased with every aspect of our sons education!

Two of my children both attend this school and have had a wonderful experience. My son has attended since the school first opened. He is now in 4th grade. Like all schools Riverview Charter School is not perfect, but the school's academic record and philosophy speak for itself. They do not overcrowd the classrooms. The staff are very nice and helpful. My son has had excellent teachers. My children actually look forward to school each day and I am grateful my children attend this school. The public elementary schools are all decent in Beaufort County, however, at the middle school grades Riverview by far is the best public school in the northern part of the county.

This school has too many politics working behind the scene and hidden agendas. They do not treat their teachers very well. Many teachers are unhappy and tHe kids run wild. We are looking for a new school for our daughter.
