Being in our 9th year with our kids at Discovery, my husband and I can wholeheartedly recommend it. The staff & teachers go above & beyond (current and past). The parents I’ve met are friendly and eager to be involved. The feel on the campus is positive, with good support for kids who need it. The check-in, check-outprocess is followed regularly for adults coming on campus which I appreciate. The office ladies are so friendly and helpful. My kids have participated in and loved: band, valet, science fair, after school track, school-wide track meets, family picnic days on campus, flag football, rocket launching at the park, Veterans Day assembly hearing veterans speak, merit based swim parties, several hands on learning experiences, field trips to: calm, rollerama, wind wolves, camp KEEP, and the Nutcracke. As a parent, I’m thankful to have such a solid school to partner with.

I’m so disappointed that this is the “best” elementary school in the area. I’ve tried to get my kids out of this school but it’s near impossible to have an inter-district transfer granted. Having come from an exceptional school with high standards, amazing teachers, great curriculums, and an overall amazing school spirit…this is a really lousy school. My kids are are not happy at Discovery. The school culture is subpar, the “curriculums” are SUBPAR, everything, to me, about this school is subpar. I wouldn’t recommend this school to anyone.

We moved to Bakersfield 2 years ago. We found a safe community in the North West. Our kids pertain to Discovery Elementary. Enrolling them was difficult. The first year was very difficult for my kids too. They previously attended schools that were failing. At the end of the year two of my kids were recommended for retention... The teacher said that if they were in a different district they may have been fine, but since their standards were so high they were not meeting their requirements. I declined their suggestions, instead we worked with our children extra and payed for tutoring. Our 4rd grader showed a dramatic improvement this year. Our 2nd grader is still struggling. I don't want to discourage any one from coming to this school, but please don't enroll your child in this school unless you are willing to put in the hours, helping your child with homework and research projects. Or your child will become held back, discouraged and unmotivated. Stay away from combo classrooms.

I went to this school and it is amazing! They helped me get better in math, science, reading, and history! Everyone and the staff is nice! They have fun trips and activities! The principal is very kind and helps with any dramam problems if there is one. The teachers make learning more fun! Mrs.Gregg is the best 5th grade teacher i've ever had! The staff always makes sure there is no fighting on campus. Love love love this school! This is the best school to go to!
