We have loved this school! This principal and assistant principal have been very supportive of our children and their needs. They have helped work as a team with the teachers to make sure they are succeeding. The teachers have all been wonderful. When there has been issues or concerns they have been resolved quickly!

My child began at Mathews during the pandemic. The staff, teachers and administration have dealt with the challenges of this period with aplomb, grit, organization and warmth. I am in awe of them. I am so grateful to Principal Martino-Brewster for her calm, positivity and wisdom. My child has had a loving and trusting relationship with their specials teachers as well as their primary teachers. Like so many schools in the USA, Mathews struggles to equitably serve its disadvantaged students. Mathews parents generally have a long way to go in becoming anti-racist, anti-classist parents and teaching their children to be anti-racist and anti-classist. On the whole, however, I am proud of this school community and feel lucky that my family can be a part of this environment.

Overall this school provides a decent learning environment however, their are teachers and staff that aren’t interested in the concerns of minority parents. Concerns that I attempt to address directly are often ignored.

Definitely a 10 out of 10. My family and I couldn’t be happier. I love the family feel and feel fortunate to have my child in such a caring, diverse and family oriented school.

I had high hopes considering the past reviews and test scores. I transferred my son hete and drive in traffic every morning because I thought this was such a great school on paper. Don't be fooled...the test scores have gone down and leadership has as well. This has been a big let down.

Principal often does not answer, when difficult issues e.g. bullying etc, need to be adressed. Its more about smiling, waving and pretending things are OK. New students are not treated as equal. We recommend you look for better alternatives. There are many other good elementary schools in Austin.

Mathews Elementary is a small, very diverse public school with very active and involved group of parents, teachers, and administrators. The teachers are invested in the education and well being of their students. I Love this school!

We moved into the UT family housing when my daughter was going to enter kindergarten. We couldn't have asked for a better neighborhood school. She absolutely loved it and thrived in the environment. Though we have had to move out of state, my daughter still mentions how much she misses her friends and teachers there. If we are ever going to be in Austin again, Mathews will be our priority school.

As a former student of Mathews, I can honestly going to this school was one of the best educational experiences of my life. Not only did it help me grow academically but socially as well. I made some of my best friends in the world there. The teachers are invested in the education and well being of their students and the staff members are always willing to help with any problem. The school has one of the most diverse student bodies you will see at an elementary school. Every student is given the experience of taking part in Cultural Festivals and sponsored nights like Science NIght and a Sock Hop! Overall this school allowed me to grow as a person while getting an education that exceeds all others.
