My family and I moved from a very big city (with schools who have actual problems) and this school is crazy good comparatively. My son went from a kindergarten class with 52 children (yes, 52) to 15. His teachers, so far, have been incredible communicators. The resources they are acquiring are great (fyi, our school in Philly had a school nurse only twice a week, no counselor, and gym once a week, which was usually a movie because the gym teacher was with a traveling school sports team...)The best part is the community. When the school has an event, the parents, grandparents, family friends, etc are ALL there. On field trips, they all attend! My son had a hard transition moving 7 hours away at 5 years old, and he loves his school now. My family and I feel very lucky to have found a public school like this!

The school faces many challenges. I have had one child go through and another child almost finished. Most of the teachers are wonderful although I do see favoring going on among certain children who belong to well respected people in the community. Bullying continues to happen and most of the time it's the kids from those well respected families doing the bullying which translates into nothing being done. The PTO is very involved and always has the kids at heart. A better program for children with special needs should be in place. Overall it seems pretty average and if you are thinking about moving to the area you may want to try another area.

Like any other school, AFES faces many challenges. However there are things that could be done to make it better. Bullying is still an issue and unfortunately it's by children who get good grades and come from well respected families so not much gets done. The teachers seem wonderful but lots of favoring goes on (again with the same kids from the same families). I have had one child finish the school and another currently going through. I can't wait to be done with elementary school. Not much seems to be done to help improve grade average where as the middle school is fabulous. It's a sad state of affairs when you child dreads going to school each day.

This school is not where you want your child ... the teachers have been caught bullying children and calling them regards, if the teachers really feel that way maybe they aren't teaching good enough after all kids learn what you teach so maybe the teachers are the regards.

I love this school. The new principal is working hard to change problems within the system. She is open and listens to parents carefully, and does her best to address concerns quickly. There are still some issues, but things are improving constantly. The school has tremendous community support. My son's second grade teacher is wonderful, he works extremely hard to accommodate his special needs while maintaining a very high standard for him. My daughter's kindergarten teacher noticed that she reads better than the other kids, so gives her more challenging books to read. The PTO is active in supporting student life.
