13 years of my life with this school and community! Love them!

I am very, very disappointed with what I have seen so far. The 'music and arts' program (if you can even call it that) is laughable at best. Music meets every two weeks for 40 minutes. Art? Doesn't even exist. Forget about seeing your child in a theatrical performance, because they don't exist either. This school follows the strict standards set forth by the CCBOE, and adheres to them in a rigid and unyielding manner. There is no room for creativity, and I feel like my once bright thinkers are now being dimmed into the cookie cutter common core robots that this industrialized machine is constructing. It's not all the faculty's fault. Some of them are very good teachers, and some of them are very poor. It's a matter of fact. Other commenters are right, you will feel like an outcast unless you belong to some after-school club, or other independent parent organization. I won't even get started on the bullying that's allowed in the classroom. It happens right underneath the teachers nose and nothing is done about it. I heard it is a zero tolerance zone for bullying..I cry BULL itself.

Very disappointed in the current administration. Particularly the Principal Jonathan Gilbert. He does not support his teachers or staff. He seems to only care about himself. He rarely responds to emails, is short when asked to answer a face to face question, and overall lacks communication skills needed to be a leader. He does not evaluate teachers or make comments in Educate Alabama. He does not motivate or give his teachers positive or negative feedback whatsoever.

When my first child started here it was a great school. Over the last 2 years something changed. My younger child's teacher was awesome but other than that the school is a mess. Unorganized, little parent communication about school events. I didn't know about my child's awards program until the week before which left me no time to take off. His teacher told me a tentative date weeks ahead but said she was waiting for administration to finalize. It was like that all year. The principal and assistant principal park right in front of school covering the flag pole. They definitely have let the power they hold go to their heads. I felt terrible for my sons teacher because I saw the principal talk down to her in front of the students and myself. I hope they bring in new administration soon.

This school is average from my point of view as a parent. Giving this school 5 star ratings is out of the question. Some of the teacher's teaching methods are really by the book; they don't believe in expanding a child's knowledge beyond the curriculum. There is much drama and not enough professionalism when it dealing with staff. It is small school in a rural area with little diversity for the students. My experience has not been great but it has not been bad. I reflect more on the education that my child is receiving and the opporunity that the school can offer. This school is great if you are well known in the community, and if you are apart of different parenting groups outside of the school. From my experience it would be probably a better option to choose a private school if this is your only choice for a public school. If private school is not an option then you need to be perpared for some concerns. Education is the key and when children are involved in staff and parent day to day drama their education is at question.
