So, this school is odd. Good learning opportunities, nice(ish) teachers, but the students are just… wow. SOME KIDS LITERALLY STARTED PLAYING UNO WHILE THE TEACHER WAS TEACHING! If a student is prepared to deal with annoyances, it’s an amazing school.

I am student at bates, nd generally this is a great school I love all of my teachers (shoutout to Ms Rupp Ms Kopf and Ms. Ski ily) And I have so many amzing frends, there is a spot for everyone. HOWEVER While we have great guidance counsulers, many student feel they dont get the right amout of attention from them, soe of my friends filled out a form to talk to our counselour and didnt get attention about it for weeks and that is bad for the more pressing issues. The counselour are doing the hall moniters job and not being a guidance counselour. Also people vape i the b-rooms, nobody knows about it, also there is a lot of students harassing the teachers to the point where they start crying. Administraiton needs to protect the teahe

Bates offers a program that is great in theory but a miserable failure in practice. The administration doesn’t understand the nature of the students nor the program they are tasked to maintain. The result is a program and leadership that fails the overworked teaching staff and the students who deserve more. The school is touted as a PVA school, but too much of the drama comes from a small portion of troubled students and the bureaucracy of a public school system that cannot properly address self-imposed problems. As a parent of a Bate’s student I watched in dismay as baseless allegations from problematic students took on an administration-backed life of their own, unfortunate students were disciplined and shamed, and even talented teachers were fired, then reinstated once the ineptitude of administration ‘investigations’ came to light. Is this bullying under the guise of school safety? I don’t know. I hope that Bates improves and positive experiences soon greatly outnumber the negative.

I’ve had two kids go here, and both absolutely love it.

There's arts integration in classes but I don't really like it in most of the core classes. Some of the seventh grade teachers aren't that great. Sixth grade teachers are okay. Most of the students suck but that's not the school's fault. But I don't always feel like I want to jump off a bridge so that's good. It starts too early but that's also not the school's fault. The assistant principal that I have isn't that great. The PVA program is also good but the after school things and the Saturdays suck. This is coming from an 8th student that has actually experienced this school. K bye.

This is an amazing school! The teachers are dedicated to the students and the arts integration program is outstanding! Check out the school on Edutopia.org! The academic rigor is quite high! Both my daughters have been part of the PVA program there and it has been a wonderful experience for them both.

The Arts Integration curriculum and dedicated staff have made Bates a model middle school for reaching a diverse group of kids and leading them to achieve great things. Discipline has become a non-issue as the school has rolled out this integrated approach. The Performing Arts Magnet has also brought in a high level of parent and community involvement that has made a tremendous difference.
