We have had a great experience at Annapolis Middle. Although it often gets bashed by people who haven't been here and because of ratings on sites like this that reflect the demographics of the students more than they reflect the education that the students are receiving, we think it is a phenomenal school and are looking forward to sending our other children there as they age out of elementary. The teachers are fantastic and dedicated the principal is new, and it's been a learning year but she loves our kids. The resources and opportunities are amazing and there's a lot to be said about a tending a diverse public School in a small urban city like Annapolis. There are benefits that go far beyond the classroom.

My child is in 8th grade and has had a wonderful two years so far. Most teachers are experienced. Communication with the teachers is great. They usually get back to you the same day, and some even give out their cell phone numbers in case you have a more pressing issue. As a parent I feel taken seriously. The leadership is strong. The school is diverse, and the students come from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds, which has given my child wonderful growth opportunities. Some teachers sometimes task her with helping struggling students, but at the same time she is challenged academically. The IB program is wonderful. My child has a much better sense of world politics than students in our neighborhood who are not in the IB program. My child has seen one fight among boys in the hallway since she started at this school, and has never felt unsafe.

Inconsistent and poor communication. Possibly the nastiest office staff I have ever encountered.

My child went here for 1 year. They treat the parents just as bad as the kids.

We have been very happy at AMS. My kids have had some wonderful teachers and the principal is outstanding. He is relatively new to the school and has already brought some excellent innovations like I & I time. There are tons of clubs and many good field trips, including a great trip to Canada for my son's french class last year. The IB program is the foundation of the school and I'm so grateful my kids are getting the IB experience.

Annapolis Middle has a fantastic staff of teachers that brings out the best in students who want to learn. I think the IB program truly gets students engaged with the topics they are studying. My son loves video games and sports, so it is amazing to sit at the dinner table and listen to him talk about the Russian Revolution or tell me the Chinese words for the foods we are eating. He has had so many opportunities there... competed with his strings orchestra at the state level, got a role in the school musical, went to the county science fair and won first place in his category. Many AMS students face challenges at home and struggle at school, but the administration seems equipped to handle these concerns and runs a very disciplined school. Fortunately, my son has had classes with students who are bright and focused, which challenges him to work hard.

Our family is from another area outside of the AMS district and perhaps we were spoiled a bit coming from a great elementary school, but after exhausting every imaginable option, we had to make the decision to leave the program. I do believe the IB program is a phenomenal program, but it really feels like it is in the wrong school/area. After actually speaking to other parents that had their children bused to this school from their areas in the past, I began to get the real picture (low income area, high free/reduced school lunch rate, behavioral issues and a host of other "challenges" that the school faced. After working with a very dedicated AMS administrative staff, I realized the issues or "challenges" they faced were just out of their hands. I really do wish I could have reported something better, and we really did give our absolute and best attempt to make it work, but it just felt like this was a wonderful program, just in the wrong school/area and we just couldn't continue to risk it at our child's expense. However, I'm glad to see others had better experiences. After talking with several teachers in side bars, they all told me it depends on the child, but if they had to choose a school for their child, it wouldn't be AMS. Best of luck to all, perhaps your child will have a better experience and we certainly wish everyone the best wherever they choose to go.-Signed, Dedicated parent and advocate for our child

I would like to commend Mrs. Robinson, 6th Grade Science Teacher. She always goes above and beyond and truly exemplifies what a "teacher" is. My son adores her and she is always helpful and challenging my son in his studies as an IB student.

Annapolis Middle School i think this school is amazing i am still attending the school and this fall ill be in 8th grade i have made lifetime friends and learned lots of stuff and my class is actually the last class to not use the common core i love this school and everyone there it its fun but educational there are plenty of books to read and clubs to join the teachers are nice and very resourceful i have a friend who just joined the school this year and thought he was going to be an outcast but he has tons of friends so you wont have to worry about your kids being bullied at all because the teachers and administrators are always in the hallway watching during class time and transitions but lastly the school is really good when it comes to projects and homework because it prepares you for college

AMS is probably the best ib middle school in the U.S. The teachers, the principal, and staff are great. There are lots of options for encore classes and highly advanced core classes. I moved from this rated 5/10 school to a 9/10 school and I still think AMS is better at teaching and has a better eviroment.

I went to Annapolis Middle for 2 years until my parents switched me into the private school system. I loved the school. The kids were welcoming and fun to be around. If you didn't 'get smart' you could literally glide through socially at AMS. My parents switched me because they felt the school wasn't challenging enough. That would be the only problem I see in AMS. The custodians do an incredible job with the halls and bathrooms. 75% of teachers you will love. (there's always that one teacher who gets on your nerves :) ) The teachers are incredible yet firm with the kids who refuse to participate. The IB program, to me, is just a title until the program starts in 10th grade at the high school. The curiculam is the same as any other school. Though the class sizes are big, it's a chance to get to know everyone. You have all of your core classes with basically the same people so you get to know those 15 or so kids really well. All in all, AMS has a reputation that they didn't earn. That all the kids shoot up and other crazy allegations. AMS has it's quirks, just like all other schools. I loved the school, and I am missing everyone there over the summer. GO DRAGONS!!!
