We absolutely had great experiences with West El so far. Great teachers and great school. The new Shawsheen project is an example of how this school is making progress that the community can benefit from.

Great school. We had one kid with an IEP, who was well looked after and we saw significant improvement. The other kid is finishing up and has had so many great teachers who really care. The PTO is amazing too!

My boy enjoyed attending West El. He has made friends as well as much progress. The teachers are warm, caring and welcoming. We are looking forward to sending our second one there!

This school breeds intolerance from a young age. I am an immigrant from Guatemala and were raising our child colour-blind. There was an incident which ended in the school spending two hours teaching my child what racism was; subsequently, they were labeled a bully. We pulled our child out of this I tolerant school. Test scores aren’t everything (our child was ranked in the 90th percentile) and they HATED coming to school because they were scared of what they would to wrong next as the incident above was not an isolated incident.

This school is the worst when it comes to those students that need an IEP. The IEPs are so poorly written with unachievable and poorly written goals with no way to measure them , that you will need to get an advocate/lawyer involved just to make sure they are not trying to take advantage of you.

I honestly think this is one of the best elementary schools out there. My 4th and 5th grade teacher was absolutely amazing and is still teaching 5th grade. There is a lot of diversity and it is always fun to come to school. I never had any problems that were too serious or that couldn't be handled by just asking a teacher. The teachers and parents are always willing to help and I don't think there is a better school in this district for your kids to attend. - submitted by a high school student
