Racism and derogatory language at Westfield is completely out of control. It is clear that the current administration, nor the District, know how to resolve it. My student does not feel heard, safe, nor taken seriously when reporting serious incidents that are racially driven …Teachers are complacent in allowing it to happen in their classrooms and parents are not made aware when their child is on the receiving end of such nasty racial comments. The amount of bullying and racism at this school is unacceptable. My child has missed an excessive amount of school as a result. The procedures in place are not followed by the staff.

My daughter recently started kindergarten here this past fall. I could not be more happier with the teachers and administrators at this school. They really care about the students and see to it that the students get what they need during the day.

For a school that has such a high ranking it leaves much to be desired! Not a pleasent experience for student or their parents!

I am really disappointed of this school transportation service. Every single day the bus is late. The students are waiting the bus outside the school sometimes for 10 min and now in the winter is starting getting late even in the mornings and the kids have to wait on the cold. And the reason is not that there are too many kids on the bus stop, because when i check on the app, the bus is never even close to the school to pick them up on time. I have kids in college and in all this years and different school we've never had such a bad experience.You really must start working on this problem.

my daughter moved to this school last year and the teachers and staff was very nice and kind, she easily made many new friends. the students are very nice and helpful.

My son attended middle school at Westfield . Great teachers and staff. Had a great experience here.

I have two kids at opposite sides of the educational spectrum. One is exceptional and the other is dyslexic. First kid is bored to tears and when asked to be challenged he just gets more of the same boring stuff. The only thing he is learning is how pointless he finds his school days. It is heartbreaking to watch his mind be so wasted this way. We do everything we can to keep him engaged and challenged but for six hours each day, he is bored and frustrated. Second kid is dyslexic. She got extra help with Math and ELA but it never addressed her dyslexia so it was just more, not better and certainly not addressing her educational needs. The school refuses to offer dyslexic kids ANY service whatsoever. They claim they have no one to teach it but then when asking for recommendations for tutors, surprise, surprise! - many are employed right there at the school. This means they have the teachers, they are qualified, the school refuses to pay for the service for dyslexic kids. Did you know that up to 20% of the population has some level of dyslexia? How can it be right to ignore that? Now we pay $300-400/month for a private tutor and we know other families doing exactly the same thing.

This school is bad when it comes to handle bullies situations. My nephew is new to the school and has been bullied by three kids two boys and one girl, they have been nasty to him they call him names and push him around. The school knows about this situation and they are giving my sister a whole speech and so far nothing has been done. My nephew has been at the doctors for having anxiety attacks, he has never had any issues at his prior school, until he start at this new school. The only thing I am going to say, if something happens to my nephew I will blame the school. Its sad how kids parents are not teaching respect at home. Also Why talk about religion to the kids? Everyone is free to picked their own religion, physical teacher telling the students that God doesn't exist?? Really? School should be neutral and not talk about religion or politics.

I think Westfield does a wonderful job! The staff are willing to work with you and your child for extra help. They teach the students about being responsible for their work and themselves. They pride themselves on preparing the students for high school. Good communication between parent and teacher. The students are challenged. This is a great school!

This schools was fine until the new principal took over for the 2015-2016 school year. She takes a hard line approach and is very unfair and cold in her dealings with student as well as parents. Teachers do not communicate with parents at all, or wait until an issue has become too large to deal with effectively. My son is glad to be done with Westfield, and frankly, so am I.

The administration at this school is very faulty. The disregard for their students well-being was quite alarming in my experience. My son injured his leg in gym class, in which he asked to go to the nurse. Even though he complained of severe pain, the nurse only gave him an ice pack and would not call me or his father. My son's classes are on the upper floor, so he had to limp up and down the stairs all day. When he got home, he was taken to the door, and was diagnosed with a severe sprained ankle. I called the school and talked to the principal about this issue, and he reassured me that he would look into what happened and call me back. Never once called or emailed me about a single thing. Really goes to show how someone who seems to do this job for their students blatantly did not care. Ridiculous. The majority of teachers at this school are the only people holding this school together.

This school is at best average. The teachers and the staff seems to aspire to reach the middle level of mediocrity in everything that they do. They strongly adhere to common core and a math teacher told us that if our child comes home and says the teacher wouldn't help or explain a problem, they are not lying...they are supposed to figure it out themselves. Parents had better be prepared to teach their kids after school if they want them to be prepared for high school. The Principal is a nice guy with no leadership abilities and lets the teachers run the school. The one bright spot is the music program which is excellent. The teachers are dedicated and really want the kids to succeed whether it is band, chorus or orchestra.

This school has horrendous bullying issues. Unless you play sports, you're looked down upon by fellow students and teachers. Teachers are bullies. I only spent the 8th grade in that school and I came to teachers AND a vice principal with bullying issues. They sided with the bully, literally! I dreaded even showing up to school. I missed at least 20 days in fear of being bullied and my grades dropped tremendously. I was in 8C. One time in particular a girl was bothering me at lunch, I told the staff who was also a teacher, he was aggravated at me for telling on her and put us both in the detention-like seats. If you don't want your kid to be brought into a threatened and uncomfortable environment, send him somewhere else and get OUT of this district!

Horrible! The students there think they are so smart just because they are the "best" school in the district. I was about to send my son there but I sent him to CMS where he is having a great time. Compared to Lakewood,this school is just unfair.

Have been in D300 since 1999, I have found that the elementary schools don't have a true problem with bullies. However, even though the district boasts of a "No tolerance" policy regarding dealing with bullying; I can testify that is not the case especially at the middle school and high school levels. It will be investigated upon reporting it - sometimes- depending on whom you talk to but overall it does not alleviate the problem. The child who is doing the bullying basically ends up getting away with it as the school admin does not do enough to prevent it. This has happened on more than one occasion and with different children I have had the privilege to know. It is better to be informed than be ignorant because when I heard that this district had this policy I was thrilled upon moving here. Having been here and experienced it I am not so thrilled. I think that they need to use in-school suspension for the repeat bully offenders and remand then to seek psychiatric evaluation when they don't stop it. I can see future headlines as one of these repeat offenders finally goes over the edge and really hurts or kills someone because they let it slide for too long.

This school has the poorest communcation of any school that I have ever been involved with. You call for information and then when you follow through on the direction given, you find out that you were misinformed. I have had 2 students that have gone to this school and it gets worse every year. They are also terrible with notifying you when an accident occurs in dealing with your child. I would not recommend going to this school.
