This school has gone down hill this year compared to other years. Suspension rates of kids with disabilities and behavioral issues are at a high. Teachers using corporal punishment like making children stand in class. They give zero support for kids with disabilities. They would rather give ISS or suspension than doing their job. With the change of principles also came inexperienced grade principles. Corporal punishment is a thing at this school. Students allowed to kick in at all doors of other students is allowed. I would seriously investigate this school before sending your child here. Harassment and hazing is a daily of the students now.

This school is terrible with communication. The school never answers the phone or gosh forbid they call parents back! Teachers marking kids absent when they’re there and can’t ever even get a hold of the school to find out what to believe!

Granddaughter only went for about 2/3 months she will be attending again this year so I would have to see how it goes

So glad this year is over my child has some excellent teachers this year. But this school is the worst for bullies.

Honestly, it's a good school but the teachers can be cruel sometimes. Especially Mr. Twigg, he was calling me emo when I wasn't just because of the way I cut my hair. And bullying has become a problem too, a lot of my friends are bullied. It does give you a good education though, but I want those problems to be fixed.

A child with DD is not involved in field trips,dances and actually blamed when bullys jump them.After many attempt of getting protection from staff ..We our glad to say our child was removed and is THRIVING!!!!

Hyre is one of the overall best middle schools in Akron Public Schools. As a substitute teacher, I can tell the difference in the student attitudes as soon as I walk into the building. The faculty and staff are professional, experienced and dedicated. They encourage students to do their best personally and academically - and it shows with this school being rated an "excellent" school. Student behavior is much better than in other middle schools in the district. This building is also well-equipped to assist students with disabilities (physical, emotional, and learning) in their educational experience. In fact, students with disabilities who might attend other nearby middle schools often attend Hyre instead. The school is also getting a new building which will be ready for use in the fall of 2011 - one more reason to choose this school for your child to attend.
