Student was having a medical episode inwhich the office staff told them to walk it off and just breathe. They tried to force her up to walk she fainted. She came back too. Luckily another student had the kids moms number and called them to let them know. They were trying to force student back to class when the mom called and came and got them. She was out a week

My child was on homebound the teachers didn't send assignments they handed out in class to her home bound teacher. Even the homebound teacher was very upset with how my child was being treated. Nothing happened to the teachers. My child ended up having to teacher herself.

I have two children who have gone through SMS and I couldn’t be happier with their time there. We had the choice to attend another middle school when the area was redistricted and chose SMS and are very happy that we chose to stay. Their communication with parents is great, the staff are wonderful and attentive to any concerns or questions, the teachers all have a great relationship with the students and the wide variety of extra curricular activities are great for everyone.

Southern Middle School has provided excellent in class instruction and after school activities available for kids with a variety of interests. We have been incredibly happy here after being transferred during a recent re-zoning that moved us from West Pine Elementary School. The teachers are attentive and responsive, and the administration communicates well and proactively.

I would say above average, but I would think there are schools way better that ours. But, the sub-main reason that I love playing Orchestra, since I play viola, I can have a more broad interest in the arts. However, I think some don’t care about their grades and disregard their futures..

The teachers are very nice and teaches very well. The students at that school is the problem, some are very disrespectful.

2013 End of Grade scores are as follows for this school: only 41.3% passed Reading exam and only 24.2% students passed Math exam. For both Reading and Math of middle school students, only about 40% passed in North Carolina. 27% of teachers have college degrees in this school and NC is ranked 49th in teacher pay. The library is clean and organized-great staff too. There are a couple of nice teachers and there is a new principal. Disruptive students seem to rule the school though. If you can read this, you must have received an education in a different state.

I had two kids go through this school and they had a wonderful experience. The teachers and staff are dedicated to providing a great learning experience. They also have a lot of parental involvement through volunteering. I love this school.

The school is very nice. It is clean and comfortable during the summers because of the central air that many schools do not have in other states. Making the classrooms a good learning environment. Overall the school has an excelent curriculum and extra activities that enhance the learning experience. But, i have one complaints, the first being that some students take advantage of the teachers and disrupt class over and over and do not get punished.
