Lincolnshire IL in central Lake County is a northern suburb of Chicago located 40 minutes from downtown. It lies in the center of Vernon Hills, Buffalo Grove, Bannockburn, and Riverwoods. Like surrounding towns, it’s earliest inhabitants were Native Americans then Europeans. It was the first part of Lake County settled by non-Native Americans. The 1833 Treaty of Chicago cleared the area of Indians and the European immigrant population built it into an active community. When the railroad came through in 1855, the area prospered even more, and by the time the automobile was invented, Lincolnshire was becoming known as a recreation area in Lake County.
By the 1950's, the area that included what is now Lincolnshire was divided up and developed by wealthy farmers. The village of Lincolnshire was formally incorporated in 1957. By the 1980's, the village started growing even more, adding commercial and retail areas and negotiating expanded boundaries with neighboring communities.
Today Lincolnshire is an active urban community with a strong economic base from industrial, office, hospitality, and commercial and retail sectors. Marriott Lincolnshire Resort draws large numbers of visitors for its Crane’s Landing Golf Club and Marriott Theatre. Recreation areas and sports facilities keep residents and visitors busy. Top employers provide jobs for workers from all over Lake County and the surrounding Chicagoland area.

Marriott Theatre presents classic American musical theatre and has received 500 Joseph Jefferson Award nominations. Broadway considers The Marriott Theatre a Launchpad for Broadway shows.
The community is a highly desirable residential and business area with almost no violent crime, large residential lots and homes, and a prosperous economic base.
