The
Austin, Texas area has something for everyone, from picturesque countryside to fantastic dining, beautiful neighborhoods, and many major employers. But Austin also boasts an often-overlooked perk: top-notch schools.
Finding the perfect school for your teenagers can be a challenge, so it's smart to start researching school districts early during your home search. Once you've narrowed down the schools you think are the best fit for your children, it'll be easier to approach househunting.

Vandegrift High School is fairly new to the Austin school scene. Established in 2009, the school's first class graduated in 2012. However, it has already established itself as an academically rigorous school with an impressive track record. According to U.S. News and World Report, VHS was ranked among the top high schools nationwide during the 2014 school year.
VHS currently offers 23 AP classes, ranging from AP Studio Art to Psychology, Statistics, Biology, and Calculus. Pre-AP and honors classes are also available. Students scored higher than the state and national averages on standardized college entrance exams and have gone on to nationally-recognized universities all over the U.S. Well over 90 percent of students go to either a four-year or two-year college upon graduation.
Many academic and extracurricular clubs give students plenty of opportunities to explore their interests outside of the classroom. Student-led clubs include Red Cross volunteer groups, an art club, an American Sign Language club, and a Model United Nations, among others. Other student organizations range from Robotics to Cheerleading and Relay for Life.
VHS students can take their pick from the school's fine arts programs. Choir, band, dance, and theater arts programs include something for everyone. Athletics include volleyball, football, cross country, tennis, swimming, and golf. So whether your kids lean more toward workout gear or stringed instruments, they'll find ways to get involved.
