My two daughters are currently enrolled at Union. Top to bottom, we are very happy with the school. The teachers and principals deeply care about the students. The teachers are qualified, communicative and hard working. The communication from the school to parents is unmatched, perhaps overboard if there is such a thing. We moved to this district from California and the funding, resources, level of attention and quality of education is 10x what the public schools in California have to offer. Even during this pandemic year, Union has been open for full time, in class learning. I am very grateful that my children were able to stay up with their studies and continue their development, unlike most of the country with an entire year lost to virtual learning. Perhaps the only negative is a lack of diversity.

Disappointing. We switched our child to a private school. The quality of ZCS has plummeted since our older two children attended. We saw the evidence of slipping quality as the older two attended and the current capabilities and mismanagement made out decision to change quite easy.

There are several positive things with this school, but there are definitely some areas for improvement. With the funding issues, class sizes have increased and continue to do so. Parent volunteers are writing the curriculum for gym class and teaching class because the budget doesn't allow for a gym teacher. Parents are active in the school, but sometimes there is a core group that seems to control more things then they should. The school needs to work on respecting differences in students, rather than forcing kids to all conform to one norm. They need to step up their bullying awareness efforts. And finally, the biggest disappointment is that the school "teaches to the test." It's great to have good test scores, but I'd rather my children learn how to be creative thinkers and problem solvers, rather than becoming good test takers.

As other reviewers have stated, it is a state of the art new building, but underneath all that gloss lurks some serious issues. Due largely to the District s funds mismanagement the school is in serious danger of losing its Arts program, but rest assured the sports program is thriving, with a new football stadium in 2010 and new baseball fields set to open in 2011. Class sizes at Union have gradually increased over the four years that the building has been open and many classes are at a critical size. Trained reading aides that use to be plentiful in all early elementary classes have been terminated and parents have been asked to fill in this critical role. Zionsville is a very secular area which reflects in the controlling nature of the PTO. A group of singular mined individuals that push their own agenda dominate this sorority. Parental involvement is not wide spread! It consists of a handful of people that make it uncomfortable for other parent s views to be entertained. If you have a choice between attending Carmel/Clay and Zionsville, the choice should not be the later.

Our family feels so incredibly blessed to have ended up at Union Elementary. We moved here two years ago when my son was starting 1st grade. He had previously been in kindergarten in a class of 30 kids and got so lost and was far behind when we got here. Every single person in that building is so dedicated to the kids from the teachers, to the special education teachers, to the cafeteria staff and the best principle on the Earth! My son got caught up to where he needs to be and had some incredible reading intervention from the Reading Specialist who not only works with the kids in the school but also goes to the town library to keep up with the special "leveled reading" section so kids know where they can go to find the books that are appropriate to them. Union Rocks!

I couldn't be more happy with Union Elementary. Being a former elementary teacher, I am aware of what it takes to make a classroom and school run to its best potential. The principal and teachers put their "all" into making our school the best that it can be. It is a warm, welcoming, innovative school. The technology that is available to the teachers is impressive. There are plenty resources for the children. The class sizes are small. The atmosphere at Union is wonderful. At Union, everyone is a star!

Our family loves Union Elementary. The staff and teachers are professional and nurturing and the new school building is state of the art. Parent involvement at Union is a huge part of the school experience with a very active PTO and Dad's Club.
