My child was on a 504 plan for ADHD while attending Hilton. I felt that the teachers and principal did not follow the 504 plan and instead of trying to help my child in a constructive way, they always wanted to punish my child. This included taking away all recesses for that day even though his psychologist wrote the school a letter saying how detrimental this could be to my child’s health. I did everything that was asked of me including taking my child to behavioral health classes however, the teachers and principal did not want to follow the advice that was given. I felt that everyone was against us rather than trying to work together. I was even told that I should “put my child on medication” to make the teacher’s job easier. The principal, Mr. Phillips, constantly berated my child for their behavior and did nothing to try and help. I do not recommend this school if you have a child with special needs.

The actual building and location are nice, but the teachers are all average at best. There are almost no extra curricular programs, no enrichment programs, and no advanced classes for those who need them. The curriculum is very slow paced, and all the focus goes to the kids who are struggling. If your kid is ahead, they will not be provided with anything more difficult or be encouraged to learn anything new. That's my biggest issue with this school. Also, the school is in a very conservative, mostly Christian town. If you are not teaching your children conservative, Christian values they will not fit in at this school.

Hilton's staff have been an encouragement to my children and left a positive impact on their lives. I've been able to be involved as a volunteer in several capacities over the years and have enjoyed watching the staff interact with their students. The safety and education of the children are taken seriously.
