Boardman Senior High School has upheld a tradition of excellence for a very long time, however, there has been a massive amount of turnover among administrative staff in recent years. The current administration has made drastic changes to long-held policies, much to the students' and parents' dismay. As with many Ohio schools, arts/music funding has taken a drastic (and largely noticeable) hit, while the athletic teams seem to be well-funded. The district recently constructed a brand-new football stadium, however, many classes such as home economics, mechanical engineering/architecture economics have been gutted from the curriculum for budgetary reasons. Despite faculty (excluding administrators, of course, who are included under a separate contract) being subjected to a pay freeze for 5 of the last 7 years, the district managed to install over a dozen (multi-thousand dollar) iMac computers as well as multi-thousand dollar interactive smart boards (which many teachers do not use). Overall, the district seems to spend money frivolously on useless items while underpaying their faculty and overpaying their administrators. If your children are enrolled in honors, AP, or advanced classes, they will receive a quality education at Boardman. If they are in general courses, however, prepare for classes full of poorly-behaved students and apathetic instructors who view education as a paycheck rather than a passion.

I am a graduate of this school and my classmates all agree that we received a sub-par education and treatment based upon class and status. In order to achieve anything at this school, you need to have a strong social connection and money. For example, teachers and faculty won't even bother to intervene if a special needs child is being discriminated against if you don't have the right connections. AWFUL. (However, this is a marked improvement based upon how Private Schools in the area handle the situation! Shocking.)
