I have been more than pleased with the changes that have taken place since the new principle has started at Monroe! I've been a parent at Monroe for the last seven years so I have seen a lot of positive changes and speak from experience. Mrs. Wilson is nothing but professional and cares deeply for the well being of every student. More parents need to get involved at the school and they would see this. The teachers have always worked with me to give my kids the attention they need whenever I had a concern.

Monroe elementary is a wonderful school! the staff is very caring and interested in the children and their success. The transition was difficult for all the staff and the incoming children from McKinley. If you weren't happy with the school year and didn't talk to someone, you must have realized that change takes time. The teachers are excellent and the principal is a strong leader. The academics are strong and taught with each child in mind. The children are treated with respect and still allowed to be children. Change takes time but in the short time the new principal has been there a lot has taken place and the building is exciting again! It is just a building and that isn't what makes a great school, the staff and families do! Lots of families are very involved with activities and the children are happier for that reason.

Because the teachers care about their students developement. I know this through a very bright young lady who looks forward to school everyday and reads at a more advanced rate than others the same age.

This has been a great year for my kids. To the previous parent's comment... the Meap scores on this site are from the 2008-09 school year (they have 6th grade listed -- and 6th grade is gone). The teaching strategies that were implemented this year are based on current research. We can't fairly judge the full effect until the 2011-2012 MEAPs, when the programs have been in place a full year. I love the new reading program that assesses the individual students into groups at their reading level. I love the consistency of how the staff teaches positive behavior. I love all the excitement that is stirred up with the various activities. The teachers don't just teach out of a textbook, they teach the same curriculum as the other schools, but find new and exciting ways to deliver it. My kids LOVE this school.
