My daughter attended Kinder here and was subjected to experiencing and witnessing assaults from other children. My daughter was poked in the ear with a pencil and THE SCHOOL DIDNT EVEN CALL ME. I heard it from the mom of the other child who wanted to check on my kid and apologize. Behavior problems were not addressed. Kids who acted out were put in one side of the room and their peers were told to ignore them. Also, they do not invite parents in. When asked if we could attend class for a couple hours we were told no. When asked if we could volunteer we were told they didn't need anymore help. The icing on the cake for us was the front office staff. No one would make eye contact with us or greet us with a smile. We were shed aloud by front office staff when we were late. My guess is the employees here aren't happy likely bc they don't have the supports they need. The only one staff member that ever smiled was the Hispanic lady who sometimes answered the phones. We pulled my child out mid year and put her in a different school (which I won't name) and now she is greeted daily with many smiles and hugs and her classmates have had no aggressive behaviors and certainly none that continue for weeks such as at Lawries. Sorry to leave this review, hopefully the school can better take care of their employees and implement the resources the teachers need to address problems in the classroom.

My child attended Lowrie from K-2nd grade. She loved her teachers and received good grades. However, in 2nd grade she was put into a classroom that had children with some challenging behavior issues. The teacher was experienced, but even she struggled to maintain order. Then a few weeks into the year she moved. The new teacher did not have experience handling a class like this. Every time I volunteered in the class it was chaos. The principal, Sarita Amaya, said they were working with her to help her manage the classroom, but things only worsened. My daughter started getting kicked, hit and bit in the classroom and on the playground by a few kids. When I was brought in to discuss it with Ms. Amaya, I specifically asked if my daughter was doing anything to irritate or provoke these incidents. The answer was an emphatic, "No, but she reacts, so they do tend to pick on her." When I asked what they meant by "reacts" the answer was, "She screams at them or cries." REALLY?? My 2nd grade daughter screams or cries at being kicked, hit or bit by another student? I was then asked to help her try to work on her reactivity so that maybe they would stop picking on her. All children should feel safe at school. I trusted them to keep her safe and they didn't-multiple times. Then they blamed her. Yes, they also talked to the parents of the kids who were hurting her, but the root of the problem was the chaos and lack of support for the teacher. I talked to one of the kid's parents who was hurting her and they were just as exasperated as I was with the school. Their child never exhibited this behavior anywhere else. But 2nd graders can only handle so much chaos before they break. Poor behavior is the result. His parents pulled him, and he has had zero problems in the private school he now attends. We pulled our daughter from Lowrie as well. The pandemic helped us realize I could homeschool her. Then I got another surprise; her excellent grades were not a reflection of her grade level mastery. We had a lot of work to do to get her up to grade level and get her confidence back- emotionally and academically. After talking to some teachers and educators there, it is very apparent that they are not supported, and overall morale of the staff is very low. I do not trust the management of the school and will not send any of my children back there. Lowrie is failing their teachers and failed my daughter on so many levels.

Lowrie has always had its problems and weaknesses but it was a good school and a warm nurturing environment. Administration had an open door to parents and engaged the community well. The new administration has completely weighted down the problems and broken the school at its weakest points.

Overall we're happy with the school. My son has attended 4th and 5th grade at Lowrie and seems to like it. He is quite shy so he sometimes falls through the cracks but the teachers have done a good job at ensuring that he doesn't.

While I can appreciate the comment from the other parent "If your children are in any of the state programs, you can expect to have to hound the teachers for information and partnership," I guess my perspective and experience of this was much different. My child has a diagnosis that requires extra educational and teacher assistance to help him be successful, but I took a proactive approach in this endeavor by being an advocate for my childs learning. As a parent, I guess I don't wait for others to organize or approach me about needed services that would be beneficial for my child. It took a simple 5 minutes out of my day to send my sons teacher an email. She responded immediately (within the hour) and coordinated a visit with the school psychologist and special assistance instructor and herself so we could engage in open discussion about how to best support my son both at home and in the classroom. I have nothing but positive things to say about Lowrie Primary School, which in addition, happens to have one of the most effective school principles I have ever seen. This is truely a wonderful learning environment for children, with very supportive faculty.

While the school facility is very new and very nice, there is a serious lack of communication between the school faculty and parents. The extra curricular activities and events run by the school have been a great addition, but general education in this school environment has been a struggle. If your children are in any of the state programs, you can expect to have to hound the teachers for information and partnership. There is potential here, but a lack of organization and leadership have left parents feeling supremely disappointed. An elementary school needs to have a culture of helping every student find a love of learning, and that is not happening here. Outward appearance - great. Inward effectiveness - not great.
