These are caring hard working students with teachers willing to step outside the box and teach their students to give back. This is an important lesson in life. This winter and spring they have been supporting the North American Bear Center and will be wonderful advocates for the species with all they are learning.

The Westby 2nd graders raised $300 to donate to the North American Bear Center after watching and learning about bears from the Lily Den Cam. Creative teachers and enthused kids = a GREAT school!

The kids there worked very hard to be able to make a sizeable donation to the North American Bear Center in Ely, MN. They watched a cu named Hope be born to a bear named Lily, and have watched her grow and mature. They are very deserving for their hard work!

It is good to see that the students are learning good values - such as giving and caring for others (including furry 4-legged ones).

Because I feel that when children have to heart to raise money to help the American Bear Center, which is in another state, they deserve to be seen as a great school. It makes more people, more kids, get together to do great things when they see others getting together to do great things.

I am pleased to see a school where teachers develop curriculum based on children's interests and exciting new uses of media. Promoting an appreciation and respect of wildlife through studying the NABC engages children and increases learning.

By their donation to the NABC these little ones are being taught not only about wildlife but about the joy of giving. A good education is more than just learning about facts and figures.

My vote is for the Westby Elementary school because one of their classes recently did a very special thing by raising and donating money to the North American Bear Center (NABC). I encourage and support young people who get involved, learn about giving, and are concerned about people and wildlife living in harmony. Go Westby!!

I love that a second grade teacher used the live cam from the North American Bear Center this winter to teach her students about the birth of a cub and the den experience. What an amazing teacher. And the children collected and sent a donation to the Bear Center. Someone is teaching a good lesson, and I have a feeling the entire school is like this. So thumbs up !!

Westby Elementary has set a great example of how schools can 'think outside the box' to enhance children's education. A second grade teacher has brought environmental education into the classroom by helping her children learn about black bears. Children also learned the rewarding value of service to others by raising and donating a significant financial amount to the North American Bear Center. Westby Elementary and their wonderful students have set an example for other schools to follow!
