Very very bad. I’m disgusted to have gone through this school and if anyone has a choice I would choose a different one

Bad, my kids couldn't wait to get out begged to be home schooled the only good thing was music and drama programs but they screwed that up.

The only teachers who taught and helped instill values and work ethic into the students have just been forced out by an administration that values it’s bottom line more than the education of their students. Save your child the heartache and have them attend a school that cares about their development and well-being. DeKalb DOES NOT.

If you're wanting an unfriendly, unwelcome atmosphere where the students are judge mental & bully each other & the teachers are biased toward the students & can't update grades online in a timely manner. The staff is there to harass kids rather than help anyone for the most part - then gladly send your kids to DeKalb Middle & High school. This is not my experience alone, I know of many people who have had tremendously negative experiences at DeKalb & have been treated unfairly. This is not to say that DeKalb doesn't have some good things to offer & there have been some improvements made within the last few years. Not enough, as the negative outweigh the positive. Use the information as you see fit & choose wisely!

I would have to say that Dekalb High School has made enormous improvements over the years! As a former student I can tell you that Dekalb has come very far from what it used to be. I considered sending my children to a different school at first... But believe me when I say that Dekalb Central Schools are moving up there with the best! Yes there are issues just like any school. As far as staff, well Dekalb has raised the bar! Dekalb High School may have a few teachers who are better suited in another profession, but the great teachers make up for that times ten! Personally, I admire the new principal Mr.Toth, the exceptional and very caring Guidance Department (Mr.Muter is the best!) the Nurse Gina Corkle, and finally the Resource Team... Mrs. Kelby Shields is someone who holds a special position at DHS, words cannot come close to our gratitude for her! Ms. Carol Fike as well! These particular teachers go above and beyond!! Thanks DEKALB - you rock!

I am a graduate of this school I will say that if it was not for the staff and faculty I more than likely would not have graduated its been about 6 years since I graduated and I will say that bullying does happen... but where does bullying not happen? its apart of life people will always be bullied no matter where you go in any job school, ect there will be bullying. The best way to teach kids to fend for themselves in high school and in life in general is to teach them to stand up for themselves not that it is ok to cower and expect someone else to stick up for them, no one is entitled to respect its is something that should be earned. There were some great teachers there when I went here teachers that truly cared and wanted students to succeed not just in their class but in life. The school is fairly strict but this is a good thing kids need structure and taught they can not get away with everything. I feel that if a student wants to succeed here he or she can and will, and for more challenged are problem students (I am speaking for myself) they are not forgotten and are given the resources, attention, and or opportunities they need to be successful.

I was recently very disappointed when my son's teacher did not keep his grade up-to-date on Power School. When we finally found out he was missing several assignments, it was too late for him to make up the work. My other son complains that, for example in Spanish (a dual-credit class), they waste a lot of time, and don't sufficiently cover the material. He often tells me they watch movies. The AP classes my children have taken were appropriately challenging and prepared them to take the AP exam. I think that students who are high achievers may struggle to be appropriately challenged. We have found the music program to be excellent. The football team, on the other hand, not so good.

I am a current student at DeKalb and I actually like it very much. I am currently enrolled into the DeKalb New Tech program, which gets bad mouthed a lot. People are saying that the teachers overlook bullying when it really doesn't happen at school. It mostly happens on the internet... When people are at home. The teachers can't really help that very well. There's only about 2 people that I've seen this year that are pregnant... Therefore pregnancy is not "in style" at our school. It's just as bad at other schools. Our education isn't sub par. We are actually very educated. Our school could improve though with some of the conduct and there is a very strict dress code that is put into place. The only thing I really don't like about DeKalb is that they sometimes pick favorites and the dress code. The dress code is backed up with one reason only... "It distracts people from learning." Does my shoulder really do that? I am on sports teams (track and cheerleading) and if you get in trouble you do not get a slap on the wrist. There was a girl on the cheerleading squad that got in trouble and had to sit out of homecoming. DeKalb is a good school. I would recommend sending students here.

As a student I believe Dekalb is a great school if you want to be a great student; To get any success you must have the money and effort for it. The teachers overlook things, such as bullying, until it is too late. Another HUGE negative is the Dekalb school district ignores special education students and their needs. The District focuses on funding and budgets more than the students well being. Stop focusing on little things such as, dress code or cell phones in class and focus on what really matters, the students' well being and education!

I am a current student at DeKalb. I know that there is definitely room for improvement in the school, but I believe that DeKalb is a good school overall. I feel like my teachers do care about their students' success but it is up to you to make the decision to be successful and take challenging classes. Of course, as in any school, there are the few teachers, coaches, etc. that are not good influences, but I think that overall DeKalb is a good public school to send your child(ren) to.

Poor test scores and blissful ignorance abound. As someone has already mentioned, school staff members mostly look the other way when it comes to bullying, especially if the students doing the bullying are members of some athletic team. Education: subpar. Teachers are very hit-or-miss, with mostly misses. Expect small-town prejudice.

This is the best school around for TOP education! The teachers here are great and will help you with anything.

I do not believe that this school is sub par! I also do not know where people are thinking that it is "in style" to be pregnant! I would call a teenager getting pregnant "bad parenting." I do not see how you can blame the teachers for these teenagers actions. They are only at school for a short period of time. I can honestly say that I am PROUD that my kids go to DeKalb. I have a Daughter that is an academic honor student. She just got accepted into a College that is very hard to get accepted to. I am sick and tired of people always bad mouthing DeKalb. I know for a fact that the probems we have, other schools have as well. I am glad that my Daughter is getting the education she needs at school and the discipline and guidance she needs at home. If you think the grass is greener on the other side then go there!!!!
