Stanton is a turn-around school in Ward 8 of SE DC. Previously one of the lowest schools in the country, Stanton has made incredible gains over the last few years. In fact, the rate of growth is the 15th highest in all of DC. While many students are not yet where they need to be in terms of academics, they have shown incredible growth. Teachers, leadership, City Year, the PTO, and family members are all super committed to making Stanton the best school in all of DC. There are obvious community challenges- high rates of poverty and homelessness, for example- but everyone works really hard to get students where they need to be. The boys' basketball team and the boys' and girls' track team are both stand-outs in terms of extracurricular opportunities and were finalists in the City Championships last year. This year, the addition of a girls' basketball team and a step team will provide even more opportunities for kids to shine. After-school is provided, free of charge, through the PAL program. The school has many partnerships within the community, such as the Woodland Tigers, the Girl Scouts, CityBridge, and the Flamboyan Foundation. Watch Stanton continue to rise in the coming years!

DC Scholar Stanton is an amazing place to be. The teachers are all hardworking and really care for all scholars. Students are prepared to go to college starting at pre-school. You want your child to attend this school!

Teachers here care about their students' learning and it shows. This is one of the strongest, most college-ready schools I have ever seen!! Principal Johnson is an inspiring role model whom we all admire. I only hope that Stanton's scholars attend middle and high schools that can keep them as engaged as Stanton does.

I have worked at a couple of schools in the past one being in the District and none compare to Stanton. There atmosphere is just amazing. Everyone works together towards one common goal and that is making our scholar excel. I am so thankful to be a part of the Stanton family.

Stanton is an excellent school. I an currently a City Year there and I know that it is a much better learning environment than any of the schools that my peers work in.

This is my first school year at Stanton and so far I am very impressed with the culture , parent engagement as well as the structure of the school. There is a strong focus on reading and math and students are excited about being on the path to college. All students receive support from teachers and administrators. It is evident that everyone supports the schools vision and care about every student. At Stanton, everyone including the students care about what students are learning, how they are progressing as well as how they are moving towards their academic goals. Data is used in a very purposeful way and students as well as parents are encouraged and kept informed about data that concerns student progress. Also, students are aware of their reading levels and are motivated to do whatever it takes to move forward in their reading. The students are excited about learning and proud of their achievements. The families seem to genuinely care about their children's education. Many of them are invested in partnering with the school to put their students on the right academic path. The teachers and staff take pride in their work in the effort to make the Stanton community a great place.

Stanton is a really wonderful school that continues to learn and grow as a community everyday. While there is certainly still room for growth, the staff and administration are extremely passionate about creating a positive learning environment for students. I have never been around a group of people so committed to creating positive change, whether through instruction, relationship building with students and families, or many other miscellaneous programs and supports. I love working at Stanton and am proud to be part of the school's amazing turnaround!

I love our school because the academics and test scores have gone up. I really like how they keep the kids involved and the teachers don't tolerate any behavior problems. I love the way we all pitch in to help all the students. At other schools I find that teachers just worry about their class and thats it. But at Stanton everyone worries about everyone and everyone cares about everyone being successful and that really makes a difference and makes the school feel more like a family than a school.

Stanton's faculty and staff work hard every day to ensure that the scholars are not only learning, but also developing a life-long love of knowledge.

Stanton Elementary School is one of the best elementary schools in Washington DC. It is a school with a love for culture and a strong belief that every student IS going to college. We have high expectations for every student and are very sensitive about any child being left behind. If you enroll your child in Stanton you can assure your child will be not only on but above grade level with the love and support they need to carry them all the way to college. We are a big team , a big family with much love for education.

As a dad I love Stanton because they stress education a lot. They take students on college field trips and get them motiviated in having long term goals. Academic Parent Teacher Teams is a highlight of the year because it gives me an update on my students and it gives me a chance to set goals for my children. I also love the homevisits. By doing homevisits the teachers show us that they really care.

I love the fact that my daughter is college motivated. She's encouraged to go to school every day. There was a time when there was no interest in getting up for school. Now my daughter gets up at 5am!!! I have to tell her to go back to sleep. Her reading level has improved and her math level is above level. When she first started here her math was below level. Im very impressed with Stanton Elementary School. I love the parent involvement at this school because the teachers have encouraged me to be a family engagment parent trainer. I would have never done this before. Homevisits are also a plus.

As a student, I love that the teachers are more respectful. They teach us lots of things and they don't yell at us to get our attention like other schools. I like the sports that they have. They push us to do really well and I have won 3 medals in track and field. I also got a math award for being proficient on the DC CAS.
