A great school if a you want your kid to learn and be focus on academic success and nothing else but if you want academic success and more, like being team oriented, learning to be more social and learning how to network and being physically challanged and motivated. This is not the school for your kid. Some staff seem as if they dont have sympathy or empathy for middle school students.

My grandchild attended Kipp (Benning Rd SE) and it appeared that they treated the students as machines. The teachers seemed to be without feeling and uncaring in this environment. It is possible that since the school is 98% black students and 95% while teachers that there is a communication breakdown. Also, they did not seem to care about addressing bullying issues and push it to the side as if it was not a big deal. I have no problem with the amount of homework given, but it should be considered that other teachers are giving homework as well, there were times when my grandchild did not finish until 10:00 at night because of the amount of work given. If all assignments were not completed she was put on the bench or points deducted from an incentive program (she would be so exhausted) and did not want to attend school the next day, if all of her assignments were not complete. Also, the Principal appeared to be only interested in the students scores at test time and not necessarily the students' overall achievement. My child is not longer a student.

My child has been in Kipp since 4th grade It seems to be on the slop downward, it clear the teachers are not vested and are there to serve in an urban community to have their student loans forgiven They spend more time yelling and trying to control the children as oppose to relating and teaching. Children always know when an adult is faking, therefore the respect level is low. This is not the place for young African-American boys especially. I am pulling my son out this year.

The teachers and staff are impressive. The children are learning great note taking and study habits for college.

Kipp Key is they best Middle School in the City, but don't just take my word for it, check out their scores. My son is a 8th grade student and has been at Kipp since 5th grade, and the educational component can't be matched. He's testing on HS and Post HS level, and they really are preparing these kids for college. There are to Shortcuts & No Excuses, and they teach by that motto.
