As a former student of walnut, this school has been a crude awakening. There are very few teachers who actually care about the curriculum, and the ones that do are great people. However, the school is very corrupt. The principal and the vice principal are completely biased towards who they treat with kindness. The sports are the most important aspect of this school. There are students in the school who are downright rude and disrespectful. Usually these mean students are actually children of staff members. They are let off easily and are far more privileged than an average student. It is a toxic environment and if you are a student who is not involved with sports or not a part of the close knit community you are shunned. You are not cared for, your concerns are not heard, you are not important at this school unless you are in the right crowd. If your parents are not buddy buddy close with the staff then you’re in for it. I respect the teachers who took care of children who were neglected by the unfortunate circumstances, and the teachers who genuinely cared and gave their all to teaching the students. There is not many of those kinds of teachers, and im grateful for them. It is not equal here. The community is a great place however, Chalybeate and Falkner are far better school options for your child to go to.

Test scores mean nothing. It's what the student does with their education that counts. How many Walnut graduates graduate from a vocational college or from a college or University??Not many.Take the sports money and teach more physics, Latin, chemistry, other sciences and most of all teach the kids to THINK!If you want to teach sports, teach individual sports. I fenced in college and over 50 years later I can still fence. How many people can play football or basketball 50 years later.Team sports are for the entertainment of the adults. Teach the kids to make a good living.

My child has done excellent at this school. I was skeptical at first because we were transferring from a really big school to a small school but my child has done excellent here. I would recommend this school to anyone and color is not a factor my child is black and she has very excellent grades her teachers are wonderful at first she didn't like it because she thought her teachers showed favoritism to only kids who parents work there but me and her dad sat her down to explain to her not to worry about everyone else just be herself and that she was there to get a good education and be the best person she can be.
