The teachers and staff are wonderful, caring, and do their very best to provide a positive learning environment for all of the students. Unfortunately from my experience with the principal regarding a compassionate concern, I did not receive a professional response whatsoever... I appreciate the positive and practical character traits highlighted at the school but my experience has shown me they are just words. It is not actually how the principal operates and handles things with parents. The district superintendent on the other hand was very understanding, just, and fair. Change for the better happened after I contacted him.

It feels like a family. Teachers are super friendly & engaged. There are great activities to engage the whole family. Their message around a caring heart is awesome!

Due to job issues, our family has made many moves over the years and Southview is by far the best elementary school I've seen across multiple cities and states. Of the 6 different main classroom teachers we've had, there has not been one I would think of as sub-par in any way. The staff and teachers really care deeply about their students on an individual basis and they seem to genuinely like going to work there every day. It's clear they all have a common vision: they want children to develop "caring hearts" and strong minds and they all model this for the students each day. I attribute a good bit of this success to the principal, who is just amazing! The only negative I can think of is that it's becoming crowded due to the population growth in Waconia. Class sizes are edging up to around 25 and that's making it harder for teachers. But honestly, that's still pretty doggone good compared to many other schools in the country that are over 30. We're so sad to be moving (again) out of the district and will miss Southview a lot! Kudos, Southview! You're doing it right!!

My daughter use to go to school here. The education is fine however one day I was out to lunch with my daughter and two other family members at dvincis and four staff members from school were also there.I was shocked by what they were saying , first they talked badly about me then about my daughter who has a learning disability. The receptionist kristin is the one that was saying the most and i even got a dirty look from the janitor when they left the resteraunt.I never said a word to them, but i probably should have.So just remember staff members that read this you have no reason to take badly about a child with a disability..
