    9.5 my daughter is a straight a student with no discipline issues

    I'm a college student who has observed at this school. To say that the school "labels" is a true fact, but the way students are labeled is not what most people think. Students are "labeled" by the academic areas they are both good and bad at. They put students in groups based on their skill level, then they work with the separate groups individually based on their needs. For example, if four students are struggling in subtraction, these four students are put in a group; same with other subject areas. During group time, students form into their group and the teacher and teacher's aide work with separate groups focusing on the area the students are struggling with. Another good thing La Vega Elementary does is do teacher/grade rotation. This way, students have the same teacher for both 2nd and 3rd grade; which is a good thing because the teacher knows where the students left off the previous year. This has proved to work very well for the students based on their TAKS scores the last several years. It is very difficult to receive a rating of Exemplary, but La Vega has seemed to do that. I hope to send my children there and teach there someday.
