We are so pleased with the community and education our child received during the 8 years we were at Cascadia Montessori. While I could go on about about the academics and the Montessori philosophy (my child was more than prepared for high school, frequently stating the information was already taught at Cascadia), however, it is the community, the sense of belonging and the whole child approach that is impressive. The leadership is second to none...you could not find a more caring, engaged person than the Head of School.

We have had an excellent experience at Cascadia with the leadership. It is not just a school but a community for parents and children alike. I highly recommend it to anyone dissatisfied with their child's current school setting.

Our two boys have thrived here. They are learning and practicing executive decision making every day in this environment where they are in charge of motivating and challenging themselves (although contrary to some beliefs Montessori does hold them accountable). They have a hunger to learn and a zest for knowledge that is feed in this school. It is also a warm and caring environment where the students are surrounded by nurturing adults.

I think this is the best school. Everyone one there is very friendly and caring. All the teachers and adults know all the kids. They teach my children amazing things. I can't believe all the great knowledge they are gaining everyday. I can't say enough positive things about this school. I wish I could go to school here.

My daughter has been in the Montessori environment from 15 months on. The independent thinking, fostering of individual responsibility and creativity is blossoming daily. I love the environment she is learning in and the fact that my kid loves to go to school.

Our family has been at Cascadia for 6 years. I can't imagine being anywhere else. We thought after 3rd grade we'd move on to public school but we became part of the family and we didn't want to leave. The parent connection is amazing, the connection between student and teacher becomes a strong bond and the communication between the school and the home is always welcomed and appreciated. Our daughter feels comfortable speaking in front of the class, enjoys working in groups, fulfills her role in the classroom in helping the younger students with simple questions. She truly has been "guided" through 6 years of superior education and there is no doubt that this school and the Montessori education it provides has given her invaluable experiences.

Cascadia is a wonderful school for my daughter. She thrives in the Montessori environment at Cascadia. She is excited for school everyday. She is so confident in herself and I believe that is because the Cascadia school environment encourages children to respect each other as well as becoming independent thinkers. The teachers and administration are dedicated to a nurturing, caring, yet challenging learning environment.

The Montessori Method is very different from traditional learning. Therefore, at its core, Cascadia School is very different from a traditional school. Children learn in classrooms were there are several grades represented. They work in small cohesive teams of mixed ages to ask questions of, learn from, and explore their environment. There is a strong sense of community in these classrooms with grace and curtesy as a central virtue. In an age where we expect a lot out of our kids, Cascadia School does what it can to take the stress off kids. In the elementary classrooms, there is very little homework, and in class projects are allowed to evolve to fit the child's interest. Cascadia School focuses on the whole child, not just a score on a test. In my experience as a parent, when there are problems, they are dealt with swiftly and respectfully while upholding the virtue of grace and curtesy. I find the teachers to be approachable and open to working as a team (student, teacher, and parent) to solve any problem that have arisen. I encourage anyone who is curious about The Montessori Method to call Cascadia School, visit a classroom and talk with the staff.

The Montessori approach is the way children are naturally inclined to learn. Cascadia provides a supportive, inclusive, and child-led community rooted in Montessori tradition. We have been at the school for 4 years and I could not be more pleased with how my child is progressing. However, what is more important (and this has been lost in traditional public schools) is that my child loves to learn, begs to stay at school and thinks that school is awesome. While the environment is challenging, my child is not stressed out about tests, standards, and social ideals of what schools look like today - just focused on learning and loving school. The Montessori approach is different but it has been proven time and time again as a more effective way of learning than traditional school. We have been at the school long enough to see how the approach, while widely different, not only works, but creates a long lasting love of learning that will continue beyond high school and college. So blessed to be a part of this community.

My son's attitude has changed from "do I have to go to school" to "Dad, please hurry up, I don't want to be late" since he joined Cascadia. The Montessori system is the perfect match for his learning style. Ms. Kim Kuhle his teacher knows his strengths and weaknesses and uses them to get his best performance. Ms. Danielle Benge, the school director, is very accessible and commited leader. Mis

Excellent education, nurturing, kind, involved, smart-these are what come to mind when I think of what Cascadia is to us and so many other families. The school is truly amazing. Our children have blossomed attending Cascadia and we know they will continue to do so. We are so grateful to have found this school. Our girls' self esteem and confidence couldn't be higher. That is a difficult quality to instill in girls in this day and age. Thank you to Cascadia for providing such a loving environment.

This is my son's second year at Cascadia and we love it. He was in public school for his first two years and the experience was not good. He seemed to be in the principal's office more then the classroom and did not like school. He wasn't challenged and was bored. Since we switched to Cascadia and the Montessori approach to learning, he has been happy to go to school and excited about learning. It's a great environment with a very accessible staff willing to give and receive input. It's a good individual approach to each child, since the class sizes are small. Very high level of parent involvement and a great school family.

My children are students at Cascadia School. I am so thankful for this school for many reasons. First of all my kids love to go to school and are internally motivated to learn...they enjoy it :-) Cascadia fosters the development of the "whole child" ... it's not just about academics, it's also about collaboration, the use of non-violent communication skills, connecting the child with his/her community outside of the school, encouraging the child to follow his/her curiousity and passion while providing the framework of support and direction, building confidence and a sense of personal responsibility, teachers guiding and encouraging children to investigate and discover otherwise known as "active learning." My children have been at Cascadia for nearly 4 years and I have seen the positive results in my own family of a Montessori based learning environment. I highly encourage any parents wanting to support their child fully to find out more by visiting Cascadia and observing in a classroom. Discover for yourself how amazing the child-driven learning style of education can be!

I have two sons at Cascadia and it has been a wonderful learning environment as well as a very supportive social environment for both of them. The teachers are caring and the parent community is helpful and fun to be a part of. I highly recommend Cascadia!

Cascadia has been a great experience for my son. He has Asperger's as well as ADHD, and the supportive environment at Cascadia has been wonderful. The hands-on and interactive Montessori teaching style is much more effective for him than the typical desk-bound classroom, and he looks forward to going to school each day. Cascadia is a close-knit community of great staff, parents and alumni who are all dedicated to the success of the kids.

This is my son's third year at Cascadia School. Cascadia is more than a school to my son. It is his extended family. Cascadia thrives on a strong sense of community--creating a very safe and nurturing environment. The mixed-grade classrooms (1st-3rd, 4th-6th, and 7th-8th) allow the children to learn from each other. The older children become mentors. The younger children are motivated by observing the work the older students are doing--challenging them to keep learning. While there is independent work, the opportunity to often work together teaches the children about teamwork, cooperation, empathy, and patience. These skills are seen not only in the classroom, but in after-school settings such as childcare and on-site classes. My son has never said he doesn't want to go to school, but often says he doesn't want to leave. He loves learning! He loves his teachers! I am confident that Cascadia School is the perfect place for my son to be.

We absolutely love Cascadia! My son came from public school and was only able to move at the pace of the whole class, and often that is catered to the lowest performing students in the class. My son was starting to get bored; and this was tragic for us because he LOVES to learn. He has always enjoyed school and to see the light inside of him start to dim was so hard to watch as a parent. Since his switch to Cascadia we have seen the light inside of him switch back on. He is back to loving learning. I see no constraints or bounds to his potential and learning. Every day he comes home and talks about his lessons or research projects, or whatever excites him. I can now breathe easy knowing he is pushing himself and learning how to own his education, which means setting goals and figuring out ways he has to achieve those goals, with the help of his peers and/or teacher. We want him to know that he is responsible to learn and grow and that learning is a lifelong pursuit that is enjoyable and we feel like Cascadia is fostering that in him.

My daughter loves Cascadia and the learning environment is superb. She has flourished with reading, spelling, and writing in particular and the Cascadia teaching staff has even got her interested in math. The individualized curriculum and the caring teachers are everything I could have hoped for in a school, and the admin staff on the ball. I would highly recommend Cascadia, and I only wish I would have found it earlier!

I love that my daughter can't wait to go back to school everyday. I have seen her confidence grow immensely. Her growth has included accomplishing tasks through problem solving on her own and in a teamwork setting. Having three grades per classroom has allowed for her to learn from her peers and teach others.

This is great school for students who are self motivated and interested in learning. The school had some difficulties a few years ago but now has strong teachers and leadership in place and it is growing again. Dmitria the grade 1 - 3 teacher (lower El) is wonderful. She has both public school and Montessori experience and is very good at making lessons interesting and holding students to high expectations both for learning and behavior. She also values teaching the core Montessori concepts of "grace and courtesy" in her classroom. The middle school is a good place for students who want to be part of a small community with lots of personal attention. The academics are as rigorous as the students are individually capable of. A middle school downside is a lack of electives due to the small size of the program. There is a heavy focus on ecology and geology, with many field trips; this is great if it is an area your child is interested in - not so great otherwise. Barbara the English and Social Studies middle school teacher does a fantastic job of teaching literature and writing and really helps students to become better writers and public speakers.
