Out of all the schools I have ever attended Van ISD in general is the worst school I’ve ever gone to. The whole student body is disrespectful and full of bullies. The staff DO NOT care unless their parent works at the school or their parents give generous amounts of income. The counselors care but other than them no one is going to care enough to help. Physical health doesn’t matter either if you’ve been absent for more than a few days, they will send truancy. Another huge problem in the school are drugs…most high school students can’t get through a day of school without hogging the bathroom. In conclusion if you are thinking about sending your kids to Van DO NOT do it.

We came from a huge city (2+ million population) to Van. I had interactions with the district Superintendent, the Elementary Principal and the HS VP and Principal. The office staff in the Elem, Jr High and HS are rude and unsophisticated. They lack people skills and are not outgoing. They are terrible at education and have procedures at the schools that make nonsense. When confronted with their stupid procedures and offered alternative ideas they just complain that they don't have enough resources. Most of the teachers give worksheets every day. There is very little interaction between the teachers and students. The behavior of the kids is awful - sex, drugs, bullying, skipping, etc. Majority of the teachers and staff have ZERO common sense. Just because you have a Bachelor's degree does not mean you have wisdom. Trust me you do not want your children "educated" by this district - they will learn nothing.

The teachers are awful, and disrespectful. They do not care about you, or about how you feel. They do not care if you struggle as long as you are not bothering them with your problems. On multiple occasions I have asked teachers to help me, and they just blow me off. I have now decided that they just do not care, so I just stopped trying. If you have any type of mental illness, I do not suggest that you come to this school. ADD, ADHD, depression, anxiety.. you need to find another school to go to.

Both of my sons graduated from Van. One was an athlete while the other was not. They both had a great high school experience and the non-athlete was not treated any differently than the athlete, which is often the case in a smaller school. They both have become successful young men thanks to the knowledge and preparation they received at VHS, one as a four year letterman in college, and the other enjoying a career in the military. You couldn't ask for a better counselor than Bill Giles. He helped my boys make some tough decisions.
