My goal here is to caution parents and guardians. I had no idea about this problem until very recently. I would strongly suggest not sending your student to MIT High School. Send them to Griffin Academy Instead. It is a known fact confirmed by school leadership that MIT High School is very behind academically. If a student switches from MIT High School to Griffin they will be significantly behind, and the staff will need to work with the student to get them caught up. Griffin has a much higher graduation success rate also. MIT is significantly behind, and they are not doing anything about it. Instead, they are building a new gym and not appropriately addressing their academic shortfalls. The students are the ones who will suffer in the long run. I just want to make sure that families are aware as they make important decisions about their children's education. I want to stress, that this is not gossip or speculation. A person in school leadership at MIT High School gave me this information, and I was very shocked and disappointed.

First off 50 percent of the teachers are rude and or disrespectful and do not care about the students' overall well-being. second off there's probably one or two friendly staff members that actually deserve a job at any school district but for the most part, the staff is rude and ineffective in helping parents or students. The principal and board directors speak highly of the school when in reality it is a bad school environment for the students. Not to mention most kids in the area rely on school lunch to eat for their everyday meals but unfortunately the school lunch is distasteful and cheap and the school directors have yet to fix it. The students are constantly getting into disputes and fist fights and even though the school has a no-phone policy it doesn't stop the students from recording and sending fights that occur inside of the school to each other. The school uses its funding for purposes that do not suit the proper care of the students. we were tricked along with other families into thinking that MIT was the right fit for their children but clearly, it was all a lie.

Administration was ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS!! I overheard the administration lady in charge of financing or payments give this poor gentleman the runaround not wanting to pay him for the keys and locks job he had done on the school. They had agreed to pay him in check, once the job was done typical nothing out of the ordinary there. I guess this gentleman had called two weeks later still not having received payment to which they agreed in check three to five business days after he had finished the locksmithing job they had contracted him for. Well they said they refused to pay him by check and he has to go online and fill out in unreasonable amount of paperwork so they could pay him direct deposit and that would take another three to five days. This woman gets off the phone and laughs to her coworkers and then says " he'll get paid Oh and about 2 months if he's lucky" and then laughed again!!!?!!! WHAT A HORRIBLE PERSON AND OR THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS FOR TREATING SMALL BUSINESSES LIKE GARBAGE AND PLAYING WITH BLUE COLLAR HARD-WORKING SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS MONEY TO FEED THEIR FAMILIES! SHAME ON THIS SCHOOL AND SHAME ON THE ADMINS IN CHARGE OF ACCOUNTING!! ABSOLUTELY DESPICABLE ACTIONS FROM SCHOOLS ADMINISTRATORS CLAIMING TO HAVE INTEGRITY!!! ABSOLUTELY SHAMEFUL AND DESPICABLE! I'LL BE REPORTING THIS TO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL AND THE CALIFORNIA BOARD OF EDUCATION!

Effective information dissemination- thru parent square, email, powerschool etc. I get updated regularly which is really important in this ever changing rules of covid pademic. Teachers and faculty are easy to get a hold of and always pleasant about it.Outstanding dedication of the teachers to their career. They really must enjoy what they're doing to go above and beyond. Shout out to Mr. Paul, Ms. Avila, Ms. West, Thank you so much for all that you do! I love how you engage students academically. Students are learning and enjoying at the same time!

One of the worst as a staff member and an okay experience as a student

This school has unfair policies such as pocket checks before bathroom use. Terrible food that comes in small portions, and students that fall behind stay behind due to high expectations.

I do not like this school in general, this is a "Technology School" where they have SLOW WIFI and OLD COMPUTERS. They block nearly everything on chrome books and never really report drug cases. They don't report these types of cases to the police so the school will look like they have a clean record. The only thing they care about is giving out detentions and dress code.

This school overall is great. They prepare you for whats coming in life, from community service to college classes. Though MIT is sort of challenging, you will get help when needed. The teachers here try to prepare you and help you for whats coming in your next years. MIT really helps you grow and learn

Despite this school being incredibly disorganized, I believe that MIT holds great potential. Many of the teachers who currently work there show commitment when it comes to the education for their students. It may not have the best campus out of all the Vallejo schools; However, if I had to choose which high school offers the best education in Vallejo, I would probably choose this one.

A couple of things worth noting about MIT: 1. There is a separate listing here on GreatSchools for MIT's Middle school. It's listed as Mare Island Technology Academy for some reason. They are the same school but with separate Charters fyi. The HS is Grades 9-12. 2. This is a small independent Charter school so it does not have a huge number of students and staff. So, comparing MIT to the other schools is just not fair as it generally has less than 400 kids in either the Middle or High school at any given time. 3. This school got a new Principal & Vice Principal in 2010. Most of the old complaints before 2010 no longer apply as these 2 folks have made great strides in improving the schools. 4. MIT just got up & running about 10 years ago and they've been working on getting a better facility the entire time. 5. In 2012, the School ramped up its existing uniform policy to add embroidered patches which cost the families $1 per patch. They look great and help improve school pride overall. 6. Overall, the high school is great - safer than the others - smaller and with lots of Parent Support & involvement.

The school itself is fairly good, have had family kids go there but the administrators are complete morons. Tried to get my kid in, was accepted. Had an orientation date we couldn't make so ahead of time we called to reschedule. Only 1 person is incharge of this and never sneers her phone or voicemail. We called numerous times and left message after message. After missing the date she FINALLY answered her phone and basically told me we were SOL because we missed the orientation. After explaining we followed THEIR rules and called ahead of time to reschedule she couldn't care less and said she was on the waiting list. After calling the head administrator and explaining all that and the fact my sister inlaw was able to reschedule her sons orientation he said he would look into it and call me right back ASAP, that was over a month and a half ago. I've called many times and they take my name and number and assure me the administrator will call ne back that day. Never happens. All in all decent school with a horrible staff.
