Attending Kernan elementary caused my son to hate school. My son was in kindergarten last year and had 30 children in his class, there isn't any way ANY teacher can properly teach a kindergarten class with so many children. My son suffered because of the overloaded classrooms and began to have behavioral issues in an attempt to get attention this along with the typical inability of a 5 year old to sit still caused his teacher to tell me he needed to be placed on medication for what she saw as a "definate" case of ADHD. I took him to both his doctor and a specialist and both stated he did NOT need medication and did not have ADHD - however, the teacher (who is obviously not a medical specialist) continued to insist he needed medication. When he started kindergarten he tested well and was in the words of his preschool teacher "better than average" he also loved school - when he completed kindergarten at Kernan he hated school, had become withdrawn and was considered to be behind others his age. They put him in 1st grade even though he barely can read - on the teacher's advice they also refered him for special education based on her belief he is ADHD. We are changing school districts.
